There have been times in the years I traveled to Togiak were there wasn't public accomodations available. My old employer would have us pay a local a little bit of money so we could stay with them.
This is sometimes an option for travelers, and I know someone who is working on tours of places like Togiak. So e-mail me if you'd like more information. The company doesn't have a website yet that I'm aware of.
But my favorite trip was when I was able to stay with someone who brought me places in the evening. I got to taste good home cooking, sleep in comfort, and meet interesting people.
Here is a little girl and cockatiel in Togiak that live at the house I was staying at while visiting Togiak in November 2002. It's one of the cutest pictures of a child and animal I've ever taken.
