Best Western Valdez Harbor Inn
Best Western is a nice hotel in a great location - right at the harbor, next to several restaurants and kayaking and boat tour operators, and 2 blocks from a supermarket and gas station. Request a room on the second floor for better views. The rooms can face 3 different directions - the parking lot and harbor beyond it, the water and fish packing place, or a quiet street in the back of the hotel (water view if you look to the side). You can see mountains from any side, weather permitting. Rooms have been upgraded. Our room was a good size, clean, and comfortable, with a small refrigerator and coffee maker (and coffee). The bathroom was good size also. One weird thing - the water in the shower kept switching from hot to cold by itself (if you switch it to tub spout instead of shower and then back it switches back to hot) - annoying. It seems they have updated the decor but not the plumbing. The breakfast buffet at the hotel's restaurant was very expensive (although guests get a few dollars off), so instead we bought a few breakfast items in the supermarket (great muffins!) and made coffee in the room. If you get a Toursaver discount book your second night there is free (or at least it was in 2006 book). The book is cheaper on ebay, by the way.
