Weather

by Alisonpj

Hi - My family and I are coming to Arizona next March and are trying to decide whether to stay in Flagstaff or Sedona after having a week just outside Tucson. Will there be a difference in the weather between Flagstaff and Sedona around third/fourth week of March? And what are the driving conditions normally like at this time of year? We want to drive right up north to the GC as well?

Any info would be gratefully received
Alison

WE TRAVELED TO ARIZONA IN 2004, FROM PHOENIX WE DROVE TO SEDONA STAYED AT A B&B AND TOOK A LOVELY ROAD OUT OF SEDONA THAT WINDS THROUGH BEAUTIFUL COUNTRYSIDE AND INTERSECTS WITH THE ROAD TO FLAGSTAFF ONE WAY OR WILLIAMS TO THE GRAND CANYON. WE TOOK THE GRAND CANYON RAILROAD INTO THE CANYON AND STAYED 2 NITES AS PART OF A PACKAGE. IT WAS DEFFINITELY WORTH IT AND I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. WE DID NOT GO TO CANYON DE SHEA (POSSIBLY WRONG SPELLING) BUT HAVE HEARD IT IS BEAUTIFUL AND I BELIEVE IT IS OUTSIDE OF FLAGSTAFF. YES, IT COULD BE VERY COOL THAT TIME OF YEAR SO TAKE LAYERS AND OF COURSE IT IS VERY CASUAL. WE ALSO HAD SNOW IN THE GRAND CANYON AND THUNDER STORMS AND RAIN, IT DID NOT TAKE AWAY FROM THE BEAUTY IN ANY WAY. WHEN IN SEDONA THE AIRPORT IS WORTH SEEING FOR IT'S VIEW AND THE FOOD LOOKED VERY GOOD AND THERE ARE A NUMBER OF VORTEX'S TO BE FOUND AT THE AIRPORT LOOKOUT. HOPE THIS HELPS, RENEE

March is typically the month when we get the most snow so I'd plan on dressing warmly. The weather here is pretty unpredictable though, so you never know, but it will at least be chilly if not snowy. Flagstaff is generally 10 degrees colder than sedona. hope you enjoy your trip!

Travel Tips for Flagstaff

Flagstaff ( Pop. ca. 47.000 )....

by Routeman

Flagstaff ( Pop. ca. 47.000 ). Situated on the Colorado plateau, Flagstaff, Arizona is surrounded by the largest ponderosa pine tree forest in the world, scenic snow-capped mountains and breath taking views. Flagstaff is the largest city and regional center of northern Arizona. It is the county seat for Coconino County which is the second largest county in the United States ( 12 million acres ).

Old Copper Mining Town Turned Hippie Artist Colony

by Galaktycka

Jerome, Arizona is an amazing town to visit! When you enter the town, you feel as though you have stumbled upon a little treasure. Jerome is formerly a copper mining site, and when the mining slowed, the town filled up with artists and galleries. There's only one real road in Jerome, which switchbacks up the mountain that the town is precariously perched upon--Cleopatra Hill. There are many places in town that are considered to be haunted, such as Haunted Hamburger (go figure), the Jerome Grand Hotel, the Inn at Jerome and the Community Center. The view toward Sedona and Flagstaff is breathtaking! The town is historic to the core, with cobblestone streets and victorian houses. It also hosts Harley and VW events. It's about 1/2 hour south of Sedona on Hwy 89. Don't miss it!

Humphrey's Peak

by goingsolo

Tips: Humphrey's Peak, at 12,633 feet, is the highest mountain in Arizona. It is climbable, although it will take the better part of a day. The trail to the summit winds up the aspen-covered mountain. The last mile, above the tree line, is especially challenging. It becomes windy, steeper and rockier,[last mi is crumbly and loose volcanic rock] but once at the top, there are magnificent views of the entire state.
Directions: From Flagstaff, drive north on U.S. 180 for 7 miles to the Snow Bowl Road. It's another 7 miles to the Snow Bowl parking lot. The trailhead is at the north end of the parking lot.
Length: 8.7 miles roundtrip

South of the Tracks

by mrandmrsdevlin about Mad Italian

I think that the Mad I is one of the oldest surviving bars in Flagstaff. It's my favorite place south of the tracks though we rarely make it there.
It's got less of the trendy college bar feel to it, and more of a casual local bar. It recently was remodeled though, and no includes an upstairs roof-top balcony which is rumored to be really neat. Casual....

Dara Thai

by mrandmrsdevlin about Dara Thai

Flagstaff has some excellent places to eat Thai food, but I would have to say that Dara Thai is the best. It is located downtown and is a good starting point for exploring or walking around downtown. Evil Jungle Princess with Thai tea.....mmmmm
