Budget priced budget accomodation

When we did our fly drive in SW USA to LA - Las Vegas - we took the I-15 North into Utah to drive through Bryce Canyon and drove route 89 West across Utah before heading South into Arizona. It was the 13th day of May and when we got to a suitable elevation (7000 FT or so) there was snow either side of the highway!

Later on at night when we reached the Motel 6 on East Butler Avenue it was cold as I stepped out of the car still wearing shorts and sandals.

Smallest room we have ever had anywhere in the USA - probably by quite a way too, but OK.

The swimming pool was out of season in mid-May - daytime temperatures get up to 70F/ 21C or so that time of year so had hoped it would be operational but hardly a disaster.

Even the promised morning fcoffee did not materialize; signage up at the time of our arrival at the coffee percolators at check in saying "Out of Order" - did not look a new sign and was still the case when we left 2 days later. It is only coffee - could they not bother to make alrternative arrangements for guests? Apparently not.

Unique Quality: Very very good views of snow capped mountains as you will see elsewhere on these pages.
Also liked the old steam train's lonesome, plaintive whistle in the night. True enough, this is more Flagstaff quality than Motel 6

But, as described above, less than helpful or pro-active staff. I'll bet they still have the same out of order sign up at the coffee percolators!

But - just somewhere to sleep as we drove and explored Grand Canyon, we got an internet rate at about $40+tax a night which is hardly breaking the bank, so when you budget you have to be realistic. Would maybe stay here again as it had no deal-breaker problems, just don't expect too much. So I've given a VERY generous 3/5

Let me down

A friend and I stayed here twice. Both times there were problems with our room (the first time: The drainplug in the tub would not stay down and the battery in the smoke detector died so it chirped from 3 AM till we left) (the second time: The drainplug was missing and two lightbulbs were burned out) The staff, to include the manager, was also rude. Beware!

Unique Quality: I will not stay here ever again.
