Golf and Flames weekend

Best (5.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on December 6, 2014

Went to Arizona to play some golf and go to a Calgary Flames hockey game Saturday Night. Managed to find good deal with both flight and hotel when dropped last (Sunday) night off package at the Renaissance which used a gift card at a hotel in Scottsdale.

Location is excellent for both shopping and restaurants being within short walking distance. Arrived Black Friday with insane line ups to just get into parking lot of outdoor Outlet Mall across the street from the hotel but once got to hotel found parking close by and free. We got our room early which was a plus and quickly booked tee time at a course in nearby Sun City for good last minute rate.

Saturday morning we had breakfast buffet downstairs and were pleasantly surprised to see a dozen or so of the Flames players enjoying the breakfast as well from time to time in small groups. I drove my friend to far south east end of greater Phoenix below Mesa to play golf while I returned and hung out at the hotel for rest of day before game. Fans downstairs were lucky to catch a few of the boys around 5 pm ish on the walk over to the rink for autographs, I just smiled and acknowledged them. Our seats were on the South end of the building in the Casino Club seats which has separate entrance easily walked to along with all of the entrances to the game/building. The pool and gym are both excellent, I can't really think of anything negative to say about my stay. On Sunday went to Scottsdale Fairmont Princess and think dollar for dollar would stay at Renaissance Glendale Hotel & Spa Hotel and use savings for golf.

The best hotel beside the Super Bowl Stadium

Best (5.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on January 24, 2009

Once again, Marriott amazes me by building this excellent hotel near our near that we often have breakfast and snacks here. So, if you are in the neighborhood, you just might see us here!

The lobby is very welcoming with a wonderful water fountain, a good reprieve from the summer sun. The Soleil restaurant is our favorite as it serves food so meticulously prepared by the hotel chef. Everything looks so new, because the hotel was opened only in 2008 in connection with the Super Bowl.

There are several function rooms and one of our friends even decided to have their kid's debutante ballroom party here (probably with a ridiculous US$40-50,000 price tag though! It looked really expensive - we did not ask our friend how much they spent...).

The hotel is well-equipped to handle several big events at one time...however, parking is best done through the valet, specially during busy nights.

Unique Quality: near the University of Phoenix Stadium and the Westgate Center
