Amazing place, Don't even think of going anywhere

We made our own way here from vegas. we timed to arrive about 4'o clock after all the tour buses had left and we booked out at 10'oclock before they arrived the following day. We stayed at the bright angel lodge right on the rim. The sunset and sunrise from this location were brilliant and as all the day trippers had gone home there was loads of space to walk freely. A real easy going relaxing place. Also much much cheaper than going on organised trips if you have a family.
The blue angel is not a fancy 5 start super duper hotel. It does fit in perfectly with the surroundins ina very basic and timeless way. The staff are unbelievably helpful and friendly and a smaal bar with a local guy playing guitar and singing a few songs really made for a brilliant atmosphere

Unique Quality: Location. Simple as that. You will not find a better hotel anywhere at this price

You can't get any closer to the rim!

I stayed in June of 2008 at one of the Bright Angel Cabins. We were only 50 to 75 feet from the edge of the rim! You don't have to go far to check out the sunrise or sunset.

The next morning at 6 a m I walked down the path to the edge of the rim and I was startled by a noise behind me. It was a mule deer. She took her time walking to the edge and then slowly went down the rim into the steep canyon.

The rooms have a TV, my room only had one bed (double), small fridge. You are paying for the viewand location! It was worth it for one night.

Unique Quality: Right by the rim.

You can't get any closer than this

The night before Scott and I hiking to the bottom of the grand Canyon we stayed at the Bright Angel Lodge. Older, smaller rooms. The upside is you are right next to the rim.

Bright Angel is a stone's throw away from all the shops and places to eat too. If you don't call early enough it will be booked up.

Unique Quality: Close to the rim with some history on its side.

Best Affordable Lodging on the Rim

The Bright Angel Cabins are located on the rim of the Grand Canyon. If you get lucky, you may get a room facing the Canyon. The rooms are small and simple but, are clean and very affordable. It had a shared shower down the hall but, the rooms have private toilets/sinks. It is a short walk to the restaurant and Main Lodge. At the Lodge you can make reservations for different tours and such. I strongly suggest making reservations months in advance, especially in the peak periods, as everything gets booked up rapidly.

Unique Quality: Unique Qualities......The view of The Grand Canyon. Pictures will never do it justice!

Lodging at the Canyon

Being at Las Vegas, you should make a brake to take an overnight stay at the Grand Canyon.

The contrast between human artificial paraphernalia (at its best in Las Vegas) and the powerful tranquillity of nature in the canyons, will surely strike you and make you think.

Thinking it's really the best sport. Brigth Angel Hotel right at the edge of the canyon, or Maswik Lodge , some steps aside (more expensive), are peaceful solutions.

Unique Quality: Fully integrated with nature and landscape.

Heavenly Angels

We stayed here 3 nights and loved it.

I did some homework in advance and reserved a rim cabin in hopes of a nice view and oh boy did we ever get one. The cabin (which is actually a room in a detatched wing of the lodge) was just the other side of the rim path and we looked right into the canyon from our window. Not all of the cabins have completely unobstructed views, and they can't guarantee one that does so it's a crapshoot.

Bright Angel is historic landmark so the rooms are old but roomy and ours had a wood fireplace. It also had a TV (rare at NPS lodgings - not that you need one), phone, comfy chairs, coffeetable and bathroom: clean and very comfortable.

Rim cabin rates currently (2011 season) run about $150-175 a night depending on if your room has a fireplace. Another plus is that you get to park AT the hotel; parking is a problem at the South Rim so this is nice. Highly recommended. Reserve WELL in advance (a year if possible) as there aren't many of these. The lodge has a variety of other accommodations at lower/higher rates as well.

See the website below for all South Rim park lodgings. You can make reservations by phone or online.

Unique Quality: Close to the rim
Excellent proximity to Grand Canyon Village services
Rooms rates from under $100 - $350

Has anyone stayed here?

Is it nice?

Thanks

I stayed there but its over 10 years ago now.

When we went the lodge cabins were old, basic but clean. The position is excellent and the view across the canyon is to die for.

I agree with uk2usa - we stayed there a few years ago (rim cabin - not lodge room) and the view was awesome. It's closer to the rim than El Tovar and much less expensive! The rooms are a bit dated as it's a historic landmark but ours was clean, comfortable and roomy. They don't have much for amenities but we did have a TV - rare for NP rooms. The only reason we even used ours was that we were there on 9/11/2001. Enuf said.

You didn't say what type accomodations you have so don't know what to tell you if it's a lodge room vs a cabin. I saw one (economy) lodge room they were cleaning and it was pretty bare bones and small but OK if you only plan to sleep there. A lot of hikers overnight in them before trecking into the canyon.

If you haven't made your reservations yet and are going this summer do so quickly as this is a popular hotel!! We booked 10 months in advance. If possible, try to get a rim cabin - they're worth every cent! Have a great trip!!!!

My son and I stayed there last June of 2004. I like the proximity to the rim of the Canyon. Other than El Tovar, all the places to stay are similiar. Bright Angel is old but OK - the location offsets the age factor.

Heck, you are only a few hundred feet from the edge! Also, there will be a lot of restaurants very close to you.

I hope I didn't respond too late - you didn't say when you were going there.

Mike
