Bright Angel Lodge and Cabins: Best Place I Have Ever Stayed (in a Nat'l Park)

If you can score a cabin through the Bright Angel Lodge--jump at the opportunity. These cabins overlook the South Rim and are just a few steps away from the Bright ANgel Trailhead. We arrived first in line for the nights we stayed there and therefore, got the cabin closest to the rim--when we drew the curtains we could peer out at the unbelievable views of the Grand Canyon. The room came with an adobe fireplace which made for a cozy night.

The Bright Angel Lodge is a lower end alternative to El Tovar but that step down in price takes nothing away from your location. Again, you are right on the South Rim. In fact, you are right next to the trail head down into the canyon. It's also a very great old historical building, having been designed by Phantom Ranch architect Mary Colter. This is another great old rustic place to hang out if the weather is not the best, to get out of the sun, or just write a couple postcards. This is probably even harder to reserve as prices are about half that of El Tovar.

We may have stayed here in the mid 60s, but I don't remember.

In addition to the two reviews here on the Grand Canyon National Park, PookieRabbit has a picture of the Lodge (although no other information) under the general Grand Canyon page and FreeCloud also has a picture of the detail.

And sunnywong has some information also under the Grand Canyon
