Holbrook -- Base camp for the Petrified Forest
I visited Holbrook in 2006 while driving cross country from Dover, Delaware to Monterey, California. We stopped here after an afternoon at the Petrified Forest, then the next morning we drove to Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon.
There didn't seem to be much in little Holbrook, but we did not go into the center of town. The Travelodge where we stayed was on Navajo Drive, north of Interstate 40, on the path of historic Rt 66. Our hotel was one of several relatively new places on this stretch, and there were a few restaurants within walking distance. The next morning we were up and gone by 8am.
