Mesa and sun
Mesa is a very nice town that has more stores than any place I have been to in some time.
It looks like there is one store for every two people in town.
The city has done a very good job of using the local plants for decorating the roads and public areas and keeps the water use down. The sunsets seen while we were there were very nice.
Paddle Boat Tour on the Desert Belle
If you just want to be driven out on the water, then get on a paddleboat cruise. Offered on Saguaro Lake on Sat & Sun (10:30am & 12:30pm) this is a 90-min narrated cruise. Need to purchase tickets 45 min before departure date. Paddleboat is also available for private cruises.
A Suburb of Big Proportions
"A Big Bedroom Community"
With around 500,000 people, and 200,000 homes (includes many mobile homes), this area of 133 square miles is simply-huge. The density is packed with about 3500 per square mile. It has a east/west distance of around 15 miles and north/south of 10 miles. Location is ideal for commuters and retirees with freeways surrounding the city.
"Views of the mountains blanket the skyline"
The view to the east is of Superstition Mountain range that stands out in the skyline. It is an area covering 160,000 acres, and is remote to wilderness to be so close to a large suburban area.
"Shops in the main old town section"
There are shops and art galleries in the old downtown area. It has had a revival to try and draw people back to the center, but competes with so much other retail out there in the community; it has a hard time of it.
