Help needed with hotels in Page, Az

by wderekjones

My wife and I will be in Page, Az in August 2008. A lot of hotels are sold out and we are considering staying at either the Quality hotel, or the Super 8 motel.

We've looked at some internet reviews, but most seem to have been written a while ago.

Does anyone have recent experience of staying at either of these motels?

Many thanks.

Derek

Theb Super 8 has fewer rooms so less crowds att he pool but the QI has a restaurant and tavern, may be full of yahoos at night.
I would say it is a coin toss.

Don't overthink a stay in Page. You shouldn't come for the hotel or town, just come to sleep and shower.
Both seem like nice places. Last time I was there, I stayed at the Motel 6 and even that was pretty good, especially for Motel 6 standards.

Thank you for your advice Griff.

Think it's going to be the Quality Inn.

Thanks for your help Colin.

Was in Tucson last August. Really enjoyed our stay there.

Travel Tips for Page

Wind cave, Slot Canyon, Crack...all the same place

by Grazina

Everywhere you go in this area, rest a sure you will find a new adventure off the main trail.
Lots of places to hike that are well know to locals and visitor.
This place is call the "Wind Cave" or "Slot Canyon" or the "Crack" depending who your tour guide is. I know it by the "Crack". But this is a Photographer playground. One day I took some friends out, and It's dark in some places in this cave and I was actually tripping over them. It was funny.
It sit on the right hand side of Highway 98 E. about 5 miles out of Page. I like this place in the summer time because it's actually nice and cool in these wavy caves.

The bridge

by Grazina

Just to walk from one end to the other is exciting...to look to the North you'll see Lake Powell and to look to the South you'll see upper Colorado river. It's walking to the bridge for the Dam (Glen Canyon Dam)

When Meeting a Navajo alway shake hands.

by Grazina

As I said when coming up to a Navajo do shake hands that is a custom...but don't look into their eyes, that a no no.
These are older Navajos in their late 60's on up. Yes they dress in 21st century clothes but on special occasion they do dress in Native outfit, but the older women will always wear their native dresses.

Taking in the music w/out interuption.

by Grazina

This is Charlotte Tsosie's husband Dale Tsosie. It never fails that every time I bring over visitors or out of towners he is more then please to play his flute. Dale also sing not only in Navajo, but Hebrew as well.
Charlotte & Dale are now working on a CD of their owe...with flute, Navajo singing & English as well with a Native beat. Will let you know when completed so you can order.

Yes, bring your swimminggear to the desert!

by Pavlik_NL

Swimmingsuite, flippers etc. ... you wouldn't think of taking it to the desert, but ... here it is recommended as taking a dive into the cooling depths of Lake Powell is as refreshing as a Fata Morgana (but with the exception that this one is real).
