A Diverse Climate...study up
by VeronicaG
We began our trip in Phoenix, where it was in the high 70's to low 80's in the month of April; afterwhich our travel plans took us to Flagstaff, the Grand Canyon, back to Flagstaff again and finally to Sedona--all within a week's time.
We dressed in shorts in Phoenix, I had to buy a sweatshirt at the Grand Canyon where we experienced snow flurries, when we drove back to Flagstaff I had to purchase a light fleece jacket for layering, then we were back to short sleeves in Sedona. I didn't do my homework very well, don't make the same mistake...
Spring apparently can bring very diverse weather conditions.
Canyon de Chelly
by HeidiR
Think of a canyon in Arizona and of course you will think of the Grand Canyon. There are many other canyons in Arizona, although they aren't as famous some are well worth a visit.
Canyon de Chelly is in Navajo country so you can't drink alcohol there.
It is a relatively small canyon compared to the Grand canyon, yet it is still hard to imagine how a river curved it out of the rock.
It is a lot greener and it only takes about an hour to hike down it. It is also alot cooler than PHoenix so is a great escape on the hotter days. Unfortunately it is about a 300 mile drive away from Phoenix.
Awesome food, but Not for Macayo Lovers!
by Sunny-Phoenix about Carolina's Mexican Food
This is not a chain, and doesn't serve tomato sauce as their salsa, so if you think Macayo is awesome, don't bother making the order line longer here. This is authentic positively yummy mexican food--everything is fresh and made right at the restaurant. I haven't had one bad food order here--EVERYTHING is good! They also sell food in bulk to go (tortillas by the dozen, pints and quarts of beans, rice and red and green chili). Their flour tortillas are the best in town. The dining room has a lot to be desired, and their location is not in the best part of town, but I have never felt unsafe visiting Carolina's (and diningroom is usually full with firemen who obviously love the food as well).
The prices reflect the overhead and location of the restaurant--they are extremely reasonable. The combo plates range from $3.95 to $5.15, and are loaded with food! A dozen flour tortillas are just a little over $2, and they are HUGE!! I can't say enough wonderful things about this restaurant. "Oaxaca Special" burrito enchilada style and the Combo #9 (shredded beef taco plate)

papago peak

its a huge park with red rock mountains.. its easy hiking, (they built stairs into the rock) and when you get to the top.. (its not very difficult at all. my grandmother could do it.)
when you get to the top there is a huge cave through the mountain that goes through both sides, (its big enough to fit like 200 people in.. not small at all.)))
its a good place to bring a date, and a picnic lunch, and there is a incredible view of the entire valley and city.
its across the street from the phoenix zoo.
PS. if you go there when it is warm. bring water
