Well, being in the desert...
by bottleofdoom
Well, being in the desert calls for nature appreciation. I did my share when I first moved out here. It's very breathtakiing... the rock formations are incredible & the wildlife is very extreme. So hiking is a must if you visit here....try the Chamber of Commerce for info on this.. There's just too much of nature things to do for me to list here.
A taste of the West
by ostbarn
North Scottsdale, out near the 4 Seasons Hotel at Reata Pass, an old Stage coach stop, is Greasewood Flats. Arguably the best Burger available at only $6 and that is with chili and cheese. Fantastic cowboy beans, pulled pork, chicken, nachos and salsa. Beers at $2 for domestic, little more for imports. Outdoor venue with 3 bars, tressle tables and benches, firepits around a dancefloor with live Country/Western/popular singer guitarist with about 5 CD's on the market. Best time, Thursday evening, more crowded Fri and Sat, bikers on Sunday. Rustic, great photo opportunities, wear jeans and shirts or anything casual.
Easy to get around with bus
by enzhu
It's also easy to get around Phoenix by bus. There are local bus and express bus.
Phoenix local bus cost $1.25 per ride with no transfer or $2.5 for a full day pass. That means if you also need to ride back home then you better to get a full day pass. There are also multiple days pass, but they are not cheaper than one day pass except monthly pass. For the detail price please see the photo.
You can buy ticket on bus, it takes quarter and dollar bill. On some buses, there is free bus book for you to take. There are very nice bus map including both local bus and express bus, it also has schedule information for all buses. It also available to download online at:

Burger and a Beer...
by dshinkle about The Chuckbox
This small place practically on the Arizona State University campus has the best burgers in Tempe. It is considered a Tempe landmark.
The also server beer, but they don't take credit cards. You gotta try the burgers!
Great hiking
by dapa18
Great hiking ,biking, horseback riding,camping...just anything outdoor.
Phoenix is a place ,where Wild West meets modern standart of life in balance with nature (for now).
You can be hiking or riding your horse just from your backyard, while still close to all what modern city can offer. There is one thing though: Summer is VERY,VERY hot. And with more concrete buildings is getting hotter! Best time to visit October till April.
