You guys should try the best Mexican food in Arizona. It's not in Phoenix, but not far from it. Globe is 80 miles east on highway 60. Chalo's casa de Reynoso is the best! but there a lot of other nice places.

I am meeting my husband in Phoenix - he is driving and I am flying. I will arrive at the airport well before him. I would prefer not to wait in the airport. Is there somewhere else nearby I could wait? I won't have luggage so walking quite a ways is not a problem.
Thanks in advance for you advice.
I'm not sure how long a wait you have but, Mill Avenue in Tempe is an interesting walk. I see you like wine so you can relax in Cafe Boa, great wine list and food. Try the Gnocci.

Mill is a good option. You take the Red Line Valley Metro bus from Sky Harbor just a few minutes east. Lots of good coffee shops as well, and you're close to Tempe Town Lake and the ASU campus, both of which are good for strolls are just sitting around.
The Red Line also continues to Old Town Scottsdale which is worth a look. Lots of little gift shops and cowboy-themed stuff. And it puts you next door to Scottsdale Fashion Square, one of the higher-end malls in the area.

Iffin ur lookin' fer a bit o dat ole West sorta attitude...Rawhide, in Scottsdale, just North East of Phoenix is a great place for a family or anyone to feel that old West feeling. If ya drive further, much further East, to the Tucson area you can visit Tombstone and view an historical re-enactment of the OK Coral. At certain times they have live performers acting this out! Tombstone is a lot of fun for people of all ages, too!
Fez has a modern ambience, hip music, cool atmosphere. Excellent food and great martini and wine list. I recently had lunch with some colleagues at this hip eatery. We were pleasantly surprised. The food was fantastic. One of my co-workers had a lovely strawberry/blueberry almond salad that looked totally tasty. I myself enjoyed the Casablanca Chicken Sandwich - grilled checken breasts, pomegranate vinaigrette, goat cheese, sliced pears, dried cherries and field greens on ciabatta. It was awsome. We shared some excellent Kisra Bread with garlicky hummus, also great. We will definitely return. Now I want to go there for happy hour. Loved the Casablanca Chicken Sandwich. It had an excellent taste and the dried cherries added a wonderful tartness that complimented the other ingredients.
This is a darling little restaurant on 16th street. A great little cafe with excellent food. It has a wonderful atmosphere with funky art on the walls. The theme in the bar and bathroom features Mexican Wrestlers. Too cute.
The food makes this restaurant special. We went for brunch and had a seafood crepe that was out of this world. Their tortilla chips are more authentic mexican and the guacamole is nice with an unusual addition of dried sweet pomagranite.
The bar features a good selection of tequilas and the staff was very nice and attentive when I was there.
This place is unexpected in the neighborhood it is in. It is totally worth the trip. Seafood Crepe for brunch along with a Mango Mimosa. Sweet!
Update: I eat here way too often now - At lunch I am likely to order their Shrimp Tacos with their house salad and an order of guac and chips. Their margaritas are good but strong. Expect a buzz.
This interesting building is not really a castle, but a very interesting design of a home. The Tovrea family lived in the "castle" for years. In the 1980's the family donated the home to the City of Phoenix. The family still owns the land the house sits on. The city has been arguing ever since what to do with the house. Turn it into some kind of park/museum was most offered suggestion, but the Anasazi ruins are practically across the street and have a similar theme! So the house sits and the city council argues over what to do with Tovrea Castle.
