Valley Metro Bus Service

by Gatopardo

Does anyone knows how to use it? More than learning the lines is where do I pay.. if to the driver or do I need to buy a pass somewhere?

Thanks a bunch!

Great! Thank you.

I didn't know I could pay inside the buss, since the website or the manual suggest to buy the pass in all the categories. I had my doubts. No it is cleared!

You can get a monthly pass, but the fare on most buses (I think the express routes are more) is $1.50 in exact change (i.e. - no change given for $2). There's a little machine by the driver that takes coins and dollar bills and you pay when you get on. The driver will then give you a transfer.
This is all of their web site:

Travel Tips for Phoenix

I was in Phoenix for a...

by acemj

I was in Phoenix for a business Expo, so unfortunately, I had to work!
This is just a picture of our crew setting up for the Expo. After working long days, my friends from work and I usually met at one of the restaurants in the Biltmore area where are hotel was located. We ate at the Cheesecake factory twice (part of the national chain) and, as usual, it was good. Traveling is a great way to bond with co-workers and to spend some time with them away from the normal routines of the workplace.

Sedona - less than 3 hr drive from Phoenix

by jumpingnorman

I once read that Sedona is one of the most romantic places in the United States. It also is featured sometimes in the History Channel’s UFO series, because a lot of unidentified flying objects have been spotted on its horizon. They say that the place is sacred and full of “magnetic power”.

The rocks are a very beautiful burnt-orange to red color, and the shopping strip on 89A is an enjoyable place to walk through – with lots of shops and nice places to eat at. There are the pink jeep adventures, shopping for fine arts and inexpensive clothing, lots of souvenir shops for crystals and special stones. There is even a shopping outlet in Sedona.

Best part of it is enjoying the slippery rocks at the creek at Slide Roack Park --- very cool! All of our friends who we brought to Sedona fell in love with this enchanting place, and the drive through the winding roads and seeing houses by the side of the mountain was also very enjoyable.

Car extremely important

by bluejaxx

If you want to get the most out of your experience and travel in the most comfort you will need a car because the public transportation is not very dependable and especially in the summer months which can last 6 months. Phoenix is on a grid system so it is very easy to find things on a map and the freeway system is very new and easy to navigate. Just avoid I-10 and US 60 during rush hour because it is very congested and you will not move very much. Gas prices have gone up and currently are at $2.31 cents a gallon so be sure to get an economical car because Phoenix is very vast and expansive. People here drive very fast and often go 10 to 20 miles over the speed limit, especially on the freeway, but dont try this trick because speed and red light cameras have been installed in may places and you may end up with a ticket as a souvenir.

Parker Canyon

by bocmaxima

Just on the east side of Lake Roosevelt, the Sierra Anchas rise several thousand feet towards to Mogollon Rim. The foothills of these mountains offer a beautiful, desert getaway where the roads are rough, but accessible, and you are unlikely to encounter anyone.
You start in a more popular area where State Highway 288 crosses the Salt River over an old, one-lane bridge. There is a launch for people tubing very near here. When the road turns to gravel though, you leave much of the people and noise behind and begin to ascend into the mountains.
State Highway 288 will lead you further up into beautiful country, but there is also a much more desolate area lining the eastern shore of Lake Roosevelt down Forest Road 60.
The winding, often one-lane gravel and dirt road is fine for 2x4, but should probably be done only in a high-clearance vehicle because of low, bumpy wash crossings.
Eventually this road will lead to a trailhead which will take you to Parker Canyon, one of the most beautiful places in Arizona.
