 | Extended StayAmerica Phoenix - Midtown: cheap for the area

NOTE THAT THIS IS NOW AN EXTENDED STAY SUITES I stayed here on a Saturday. I typically don't stay on the north side of town usually, but got a pretty good deal on the room here. The room was very large. It was more like a small studio apartment. Full-size fridge, stove top, sink and microwave. There is free wireless throughout the hotel that requires a passcode that can be obtained from the front desk (not the SSID, it's one of those where you actually have to open your browser first) that's good for 9 days. This hotel is right on I-17, which adds problems for noise, but is very convenient. It is also next to a Papadeaux's (seafood chain) and a TGI Friday's, which may or may not be advantageous. When I was here, a band was playing at Pappadeaux which could be heard in my room, even with the door closed. They stopped at about 10pm, but the noise continued as the crowd filtered out.

 | Extended StayAmerica Phoenix - Midtown: great location, good value

This is now an ExtendedStay America. The location of this place is wonderful. It's right off of Central Avenue at the edge of the business district. Although it's about a mile, you can walk to the Heard Museum. Many good restaurants nearby on Central (including a few in Park Central Mall) and a couple of good bars and clubs. My room here was huge. It was actually two rooms: one with the bed, the other with a fold-out couch, and had two TVs. The hotel offers free wi-fi as well. And, like all ExtendedStay's, it had a full kitchen. The staff was incredibly nice and I ended up submitting a complement to the management for one particular staff member who was working the desk when I checked in, as she was very accomodating. The down sides were that, because this is mainly an office area, it wasn't the safest neighborhood to walk around in at night. And, being Phoenix, there was virtually no one on the street in most places. Also, there was a strange smell in the stairwell and the door to the outside was broken and required a trick to open. In a few years, the light rail will run down Central and this hotel will be all the more convenient with easy access to Downtown and even Tempe. There aren't a lot of hotels in this area, and this is surely the best value of them.
