First rate all the way

Everything was first class from; the rooms, the food, the grounds, the spa, the golf... ahhh the golf. Can't say a bad word about my entire stay.

Unique Quality: I recommend Roy's Restaraunt with the strongest words possible. At the risk of getting in Trouble as for Henry if you want service the way it used to be. If you happen to enjoy cigars, bring them along and after you enjoy a 5 star dinner, let your server know you would like to enjoy your cigars on the patio with a glass of port and when you are ready so will your table complete with glasses of port, wooden matches and large cigar ashtrays. Under the wonderful Phoenix sunset, life doesn't get any better.

Wonderful Place to visit

We stayed at the Canyon Villas which is the adjoining property to the JW Marriott. (time share owner) We were able to use all facilities at the JW at no additional cost. It is a beautiful hotel! Four excellent restaurants on the property. The vallet service is quick and friendly and the concierge service is wonderful. The pools are beautiful and well kept, and the lazy river pool is heavenly. You just grab a raft and float around. Lots of sunny spots and shaded areas to relax.

Unique Quality: I have not seen another pool like the Lazy River before. Jets get the water flowing so all you do is lay on a raft or in a tube and it pushes you along. AHHHHHHHHH..........

A Sonoran Desert Resort

We spent some time at Marriott's Desert Ridge Resort for a business conference. It was such a relaxing three days!

As you pull up, valets are waiting to assist you. Inside, an expansive lobby awaits as you check in. Then take the escalator to a second tier seating area below(picture 3) where comfortable leather chairs and couches are located.

I thought their dining choices were extensive:

Ristorante Tuscany (Italian/ dinner)
Blue Sage Restaurant and Marketplace (Southwestern/breakfast,lunch & dinner)
Just A Splash Bar & Grill (American-open for lunch)
Roy's Hawaiian Fusion Cuisine (Fresh seafood and sushi/opened for dinner)
Spa Bistro (International/breakfast & lunch)
Starbucks Cafe (serving pastry and coffee/ breakfast and lunch items)
Meritage Steakhouse at Wildfire Golf Club
Vista Lounge-(lunch and dinner; martinis their specialty)

There are 950 guest rooms, including 81 or so suites. The nicely appointed room provided down-filled pillows and luxurious bedding (picture 2). It offered cable/satellite tv, in-room movies, mini-bar, iron, ironing board and safe for our belongings. Some suites featured fireplaces, microwave ovens, and refrigerators. Room service is available to all guests.

The spacious bathroom, held spray jets, separate tub and shower and hair dryer. Fluffy white bathrobes were tucked away in the closet!

The concierge desk was ever busy booking sightseeing tours. A full-service business center and safety deposit boxes at the front desk are available.

Outdoors, a swimming pool (picture 4), lazy river (picture 5) and jacuzzi. Other activities were a biking trail, jogging and fitness trail; a nature preserve trail; hiking, sauna and tennis.

The resort had two fitness facilities: The Revive Spa and Fitness Center. I think golfers would find the Wildfire Golf Club especially nice. This hotel had everything it takes to make your stay a pampered and delightful one!

Unique Quality: i enjoyed the botanical gardens...all natural, native plants, labeled for your learning experience. I loved the HUGE saguaro cactus, i imagine them wearing cowboy hats....they look like humans with arms open!

luxury, nature, exquisite!!!!

GREAT!!!
I loved the grouds....utilizing natural desert colors of tan, yellow-brown, greens...

sculpted waterfalls....

river-shaped swimming pools...

combining modern architecture with a natural harsh environment...

nice rooms, beautiful interior, tasty foods, GREAT SERVICE!

Unique Quality: The views are of the scraggly rock hills and saguaro cactus'es native to this environment.

The pools are river-shaped and terraced, with waterfalls...not just your usual square pool!

golf courses

a luxurious spa and spa-shop

botanical gardens

mix of all elements, natural and man made

*** for valentines day, the restaurants were filled....my fiancee and I dined on room service- candle-lit, on our private balcony. The maid service left us choclates, and best of all, our room was strewn with rose petals.....romantic as can be!****

Spa your life away...

Nothing short of fantastic according to my wife. I was in meetings the whole time, but did spend a few minutes walking around taking some pictures...

Unique Quality: The Spa, according to everyone I talked to that participated, is wonderful. The grounds are an ecosystem unto themselves and the golf course is well recommended.

The pool(s) (yes multiple) go on forever....

Absolutely beautiful!

by A TripAdvisor Member

Just returned from this beautiful resort! We were looking for a last minute getaway with our 18 month old son and chose this based on other great reviews from Trip Advisor. We were not disappointed! We went for 4 days and were treated with great service from the moment we stepped out of the car. Standard rooms are good sized with big bathrooms and both tub and separate shower. The resort is sparkling...almost brand new with beautiful tennis, golf, spa and pool facilities. They have fountains everywhere (even one that small children can play in near the pools). We were unlucky with weather for the first few days but were able to find some great side trips (Sedona and the Phoenix Zoo) until it was time to lay poolside. The lazy river and waterslide were great as well as several other standard pools. Restaurants are better than room service which had limited choices. We had an extravagant breakfast buffet included with our room which was the highlight meal of each day. Also, great food at Roy's restaurant where they welcomed our toddler... surprisingly kid friendly, especially for a fine restaurant. Major THUMBS UP on JW Marriott Desert Ridge.

Comfortable, beautiful hotel in Phoenix

by A TripAdvisor Member

The Marriot Desert Ridge was a beautiful, comfortable hotel. We were pleasantly surprised at how great an experience we had at such a large hotel, since we tend to prefer smaller, boutique hotels. But despite it's large size (the largest resort hotel in Phoenix with over 900 rooms!) we never felt too overwhelmed or lost. The rooms were very large and comfortable, the service was fantastic. The food was average, except for Roy's which was terrific. We spent the extra money for the Cloud Club which was very nice, but I'm not sure if it was really worth it for us. The pools were great and the spa was absolutely wonderful! The location is a bit far from everything since it's in the very northern part of Phoenix, and right next to a large shopping area. But you really don't feel the need to leave the property and could probably manage just staying there. Overall, very nice and somewhere I would consider staying again.
