Big City
by HeidiR
Phoenix is a huge city, yes it is in the middle of the desert but no its not in the middle of no where. You may think of Phoenix as being in the middle of no where so why bother going there. In reality it is a massive city with lots of different supburbs (Chandler, Tempe, Scotsdale, Gilbert, mesa, Paradise Valley, glendale ACTUALLY THEY ARE CALLED CITIES!!!). You can do or buy justabout anything that you can do or buy elsewhere in the states.
Yes I believe it can get extremely hot here, I have only experienced january so far and its extremely plesant. During the day it is a very comfortable temperature probably mid 20's C or mid 70's F and at night all you have to do is put on a sligtly warm top and its very plesant. however in the summer it can get to 110 F. Although I probably wouldn't recommend Phoenix as a holiday resort I think it is a really good location to explore Arizona. perhaps use Phoenix as the airportt for getting in and out of the state. To Sedona the beautiful red rock country its only 119 miles, Flagstaff 145 miles, grand Canyon(228 miles), Hoover Dam (259 miles), Lake Havasu city (206 miles).
We intend travelling to Sedona (119 miles) then the Grand Canyon (further 100 miles), then Brize canyon in a week. there are many national parks in arizona. There is even a point in Arizona where you can stand in the corner and be next to 3 other states!!!
Shaw Butte Hike in North Mountains
by BruceDunning
This hike was a bit easier than others. It starts out on a flat trail that continues for maybe 1 1/2 miles before climbing around the butte and traversing through a crevasse between some hills. I went about 3 miles of the 4 miles around the circumference.
Shopping at the Desert Botanical Gardens
by VeronicaG about The Garden Shop
Anyone visiting Phoenix would enjoy the desert's treasures in the Spring, especially here at the Desert Botanical Gardens. Like most museums or botanical gardens there is a gift shop, which is located near the entrance.
Wonderful things await within...I discovered some lightly scented soaps made from natural vegetation which can be found throughout this desert state. Prickly Pear and Desert Aloe soap to be exact--umm, they smell wonderful (picture 3)!
You can also thumb through a large variety of books and cards, choose a plant or perhaps a special garden inspired gift. The Botanical Gardens cat might even stir from a nap to greet you warmly for stopping by (picture 2)!
Garden Shop hours are 9am-5pm daily.
Mexican

On the border-Mexican Grill and Cantina.
First resterant I have been to in Phoenix. Excellent food, you are given a big bowl of nacho chips and salsa. (Little tip, don't finish them or you will be given another big bowl leaving no room for your dinner!) I had an unusual Salmon dish. It was grilled with a sauce on top. Served with rice, veg and beans. Very nice.

Satisfaction-satisfied, food great, service can be slow. Great chipsand salsa, no need to eat just drink margaritas
