cabs in phoenix

by goingtogreece2010

generally are the cabs expensive to take in phoenix? are they safe i will be traveling with a 10 month old...

Re: cabs in phoenix

by bocmaxima

Cabs are really no more expensive in Phoenix than in any other city, but it's an expensive way to get around, in general.
They're safe.

The issue with cabs in Phoenix is that the city is very spread out, so you often have long cab rides that begin to get expensive. Rent a car if you can. It's an easy city to drive around. Most streets and roads are straight and flat.

Cabs are fairly expensive, but not ridiculous. Like the previous post said, Phoenix (Scottsdale, Mesa, Glendale) are very spread. You're probably better off renting a car if you have to get around the city for a few days. As far as safety goes, I lived there for over a decade and never heard of anything bad happen in/around cabs. You're good.

My husband and I usually hired Aguilas for our trips to the airport. Never had a problem.

Travel Tips for Phoenix

Camelback mountain

by goingsolo

When in Phoenix, it is impossible not to notice Camelback Mountain. Just look for the tell-tale hump shaped formation, which is also from whence the mountain begat its name.

Hiking Camelback is said to be challenging and fun. I didn't have the chance so I can't comment, but it is one of the most highly recommended Phoenix area hikes and, if even if you're not so inclined, one of the sights to see.

the outside life

Phoenix is certainly the place to get sporty.
There are swimming pools, tennis courts, basketball courts, gyms. many people go to Phoenix on golf holidays.

Hiking-there are so many mountains to hikes. many people cycle round the mountains on mountain bikes

Pan for Gold near Phoenix - $900 an ounce!

by jumpingnorman

Arizona has a rich history of gold prospectors...and now you can share in the fun! The Superstition Mountain Treasure Hunters do provide free gold panning lessons and a learning center.

You can watch videos and see how the professionals do it. Pick up their monthly Newsletter listing the activities schedule for club meetings, fabulous guest speakers, classes, field trips and treasure hunts. Swap tall tales and see real gold and treasure.

Their website even says "Hold a real gold nugget and discover how to find your own!"

At $900 an ounce, that would be great if you really find gold! But I think the club is really more for friendship rather than actual money-searching...

It has even been said that some gold nuggets that were found may actually be linked to the Lost Dutchman's Fortune!!!

Awesome restaurants at Chandler Mall!

by haleiwasurfer about Kona Grill

THe scenery and food are the what makes this restaurant. THe restaurant is dimly-lit, but illuminated by huge fish tanks with large exotic tropical fish. Sushi is their forte'. I am not a fan, but the seafood salad is awesome. Also try the macadamia nut chicken as an entree. The sauce melts in your mouth and the potatoes and veggies with papaya applesauce is amazing!

Italian

by HeidiR about Franco's

This is a more upscale resterant than the usual in Phoenix. It serves good quality italian food, in a more expensive environment.

Meals start with italian bread served with olive oil and balsamic vinegar in their bottles.

The menu is quite extensive with pizza and pasta. I ate halibut and that was great. It came with a selection of vegetables plus a choice of a side pasta or potatoes. Dessert was a delicious cheesecake
