travel nursing in scottsdale

by Canadiannurse

I a registered nurse in Ottawa Ontario Canada. I am looking into travel nursing in Scottsdale area at Shea Scottsdale Healthcare center. I will be coming down without a car, my recruiter has told me that i will have close housing. I have done some research and it sounds as though there is some public transporation so I can get around that way as well.

I would like any info about the hospital and Scottsdale?

Thank you

Pernille

Scottsdale is a beautiful, weathly city with lots to do. The southside is poorer and the north side is extremely wealthy.

The hospital is located in a nice neighborhood near the center of the city.

You will love the hospital and area. My father spent 8 days in house last January. I could not find one fault the whole time and I am a nurse and have a small clinic. The area is nice and you can walk to most anything you need. The clientel is elderly so please know that before you come. I love working with older people!
Good luck.....

I am the administrator for an OB/GYN group that does the majority of deliveries for Scottsdale Shea and Osborn. They are both fantastic hospitals with great staffs. Transportation is readily available on Shea and 90th Street...the main arteries (no pun there) surrounding Shea. Plenty of bike paths too!

Best of luck to you!

I live in scottsdale and quite honestly I couldn't imagine taking or relying onpublic transportation here- first off no one uses taxis (it;s not NYC) and I don't know anyone who uses the bus system. It is a huge town and you will likely need a car. Shea is a busy road with a strip mall close by to the hospital. Yes, you could walk/ride a bike but you will quickly feel limited. Do you have a motorcycle license? The weather is almost always good for riding, except the summers-a nightmare wrt heat!! Good luck! ps I grew up in Canada GREAT place

Travel Tips for Scottsdale

Pack your suntan lotion

by spartan

It was so nice to just lay on the floatable and not do a darn thing. The only thing my buddy Randy and I needed was a cold beer. Well if you must bring clothes, bring swimwear, sunscreen, shorts, t-shirt and a towel.

It's no wonder she's a James Beard winner!

Chef Deborah has three tasting menus daily, a seafood one, a meat based one and a vegetarian one. By all means if this is your first trip, have a tasting menu and let her show you her amazing kitchen talents! Kangeroo...never had it before and it was the most amazing tender flavor!

lovely restaurant for salads, sandwiches, desserts

by susiemargare about arcadia farms

this restaurant is in several locations. the one i went to was just outside the entrance to the heard museum in downtown phoenix, but there is also one in the scottsdale arts district. the one in scottsdale is open every day, 11 am to 3 pm; reservations are suggested.

they focus on salads, sandwiches, and desserts. there is a good selection of beer
($3-$5) and wine ($5-$10/glass). entrees are from $10 to $12, desserts approximately $6.

in addition to scottsdale, there are four other locations --

(1) heard museum, 2301 north central avenue, phoenix, AZ, 85004,
602/251-0204; open every day, 9:30 am to 3 pm

(2) phoenix art museum, 1625 north central avenue, phoenix, AZ, 85004,
602/257-2191; open tuesday through sunday, 9 am to 5 pm, closed on monday

(3) city bakery at bentley projects, 215 east grant street, phoenix, AZ, 85004,
602/253-7200; open monday through friday, 8 am to 4 pm, and saturday,
7 am to 3 pm, closed on sunday

(4) desert botanical garden, 1201 north galvin parkway, phoenix, AZ, 85008,
480/481-8106; open every day, 8 am to 4 pm (seasonal hours, though, so
call first)

my ratings on satisfaction, price, and relative cost are for the one next to the heard museum, but i would be surprised if the one in the scottsdale arts district is very different from that one! at the location next to the heard museum, i had the strawberry chicken salad, which had generous amounts of chicken, strawberries, almonds, and greens. mine had a poppyseed dressing, but i think you can choose what dressing you want if poppyseed is not your favorite! with a glass of wine, my total was $18.

Carriage Rides in Old Scottsdale

by starship

KC's Classic Carriage Company offers carriage rides throughout Old Downtown Scottsdale, the Arts District, and several other areas for those interesting in seeing this part of town in a more leisurely way. Narration by the driver gives facts and history of what you're seeing. In Summer, I probably would pick a time other than in the mid-afternoon due to the heat and out of consideration for the horses and driver. Pricing depends on the number of passengers.

Nice carriages and well-taken care of horses make it a pleasurable way to see some of the town. Carriages stop & pick up at Brown & Main Streets and are generally available on a walk-up basis. If you desire a specific time & date, however, reservations are suggested. Call 480-855-3810 to make sure you aren't disappointed. Carriages are also available for special occasions and events (weddings, parties, etc.) so call the same number for pricing and pick of carriages.

Ask about the Scottsdale Livery and Antique Carriage Museum which displays a variety of vintage carriages, etc. This small museum is open only part of the year.

Go on a SEGWAY Tour of Scottsdale!

by jumpingnorman

So, you've seen them riding it - the Segway, two wheeled platforms that you stand on and then it moves with you grasping on the handle bars. Well, you can experience this at the JW marriott Desert Ridge Resort and Spa for only US$65 per person!

It is a Segway Personal Transporter (PT), a delightful machine that can take you where cars and bikes can't. It can actually travel as far as 24 miles/ 38 km on a single battery charge depending on the terrain...and in Scottsdale, you will enjoy riding it as you look at the gorgeous McDowell Mountains for 90 whole minutes! There are three guided 90-minute tours daily.

Just one thing, don't forget to wear a helmet! And you also have to be at least 16 years old...
