Scottsdale is a pretty expensive town, but I know there are some simple motels scattered around. I'd check with the Scottsdale Visitors Bureau.. they must have a website. It's a very safe area so I wouldn't worry at all about that, but a car is really a necessity. The shopping in Scottsdale is great.. tons of good centers and malls.

I went to Scottsdale alone for 10 days last January. It is certainly very safe. One thing I noticed was that very few people eat alone in restaurants (unlike where I live in the NYC metro area). You will absolutely need a car. I rented one from Hertz with a navigation system, which, traveling alone, was a huge help. That are lots of fun things to do in that are, museums, etc.

Thanks Susie, Good Idea about the navigation system. Thanks

Scottsdale in February is great. Days are short, and it is one of our "colder" months, so be prepared....jackets at night. It is spread out, so shopping can be a walking experience (downtown) or spread out...malls...specialty places. There are hundreds of places to eat and reasonable places to stay. Use other tips on this site to find your price point and favorites. WHen you narrow your choices on hotels, let us know and we can give you our two cents. Enjoy the area.

When I was in Scottsdale last year, I stayed at the Hampton Inn in Old Scottsdale. It was reasonably priced, clean, nice neighborhood, good staff and within walking distance of some resturants.

Travel Tips for Scottsdale

Phoenix is a great place to...

by L._A.

Phoenix is a great place to meet people from all over the country and the world because it is a very popular tourist destination.
Most people are warm and friendly, but only a small percentage of people living in Phoenix and Scottsdale were born here.
Several large indian reservations in this area. Navajo, Apache and Pima to name just a few.

Drive north on Scottsdale Road....within 1/2 hour from Downtown Scottsdale, with be in beautiful desert. Continue about 15 mins to the town of CAREFREE.
Many people miss this and well worth the drive.

Chicago Hot Dog/Slider Heaven

by BruceDunning about Chicago Hamburger Company

The menu was good enough to have some of it all. The deluxe hot dogs are $4-5 range, and the sliders 92 cents, but the burgers of larger 1/3 to 2/3 sizes is $4-6.55 prices. Fries are $2-3 more, and then drinks are about $2. So, the eat price would average about $10 by the time you get satisfied. That then gets to be high end for a fast food type.
If you feel like competing with White Castle fame of throwing down a bunch of cheap onion tasting burgers about the size of a half dollar, try 10 sliders for $8.50 after 4PM each day I liked the 2/3 pound burger a lot; tasty, and the fires were good.

Old Town Museum District

by BruceDunning

The Little Red School House is the Scottsdale Museum. Besides that, they have close by the Cavellier's blacksmith shop and still working inside, and a livery stable (closed when we were there). The history of Scottsdale rest in these sites.
The school was built in 1909, and expanded when more Mexican children of laborers came to farm crops. The building was the Chamber, and became museum in 1971. It is open Wednesday-Sunday 10-5(2PM in summer)
Cavellier family were the main founders of the town expansion and this blacksmith shop is from 1920. It has third generation working today.
The town did not incorporate until 1951, and one of the newest in the US.

Sculptures everywhere!

by Yaqui

I have to say I was so impressed of all the wonderful and beautiful sculptures on display every where you go. Especially in the old downtown area. So much talent here and I loved every piece of art. So take some time to just stroll along and enjoy what talent the artist of Scottsdale has to offer.
