Weather over the Holidays

by paroadrunner2001

I'm planning on spending the holidays in Scottsdale but not sure what to pack for clothing. I live in Western Pa. Shorts during the day and jacket at night? Also, any must see/do ideas?

I spent xmas here a couple of years ago, weather was sunny and around 70-75 degrees but it did get quite cool in the evenings. I'd take shorts but something warm too just incase.

The month of December can be very cold in Phoenix. I doubt it will be shorts weather. You may even find yourself bundled up in jacket shivering.

I concur, bring long pants for sure. It will probably be nice and you can wear shorts but it is possible it will be mid-50's and couldy-rainy. Even if clear and "warm" during the day the night will almost certainly be in the 30's. In other words, it will be better than PA, but it will not be Hawaii by any stretch.

I find most of the must sees are actually well out of Phoenix, for example Grand Canyon, Sedona, maybe Bisbee, etc.

Travel Tips for Scottsdale

Go to Old Town Scottsdale. ...

by L._A.

Go to Old Town Scottsdale. Wonderful western art galleries and tourist shops. Great dining and hotels. All within walking distance, but wear comfortable shoes! I LOVE the Scottsdale Civic Center Park! Go upstairs to the Backstage Restaurant, walk over and see the swans swimming in their pond. In winter, often have special events and concerts outside.

Lost Dutchman State Park

by kazander

About an hour away from Scottsdale is a really wonderful State park called Lost Dutchman.
Located in the Superstition mountains, Lost Dutchman State Park was the location of a hidden goldmine kept secret by Jacob Waltz known as "the Dutchman"
We arrived in early spring and all of the california poppies were in bloom, it was just breathtaking. A great place to hike, take pictures and relax. There are a few different trails leading up to the focal point of this park, the rock formations. The trails wind forever though the fields of thousands of flowers dotted with the occasional cacti.
There are picnic and camping facilities in the park

The trails range from easy to difficult and the views are just spectacular.

breakfast all day, plus lunch at noontime!

by susiemargare about breakfast club

this is a medium-size restaurant where a lot of locals go. it is open on monday through friday from 6 am to 3 pm, with lunch from 11 am to 3 pm. on saturday and sunday, it is open from 8 am to 3 pm. breakfast is served all day every day. there is free parking behind the restaurant and additional free places to park on nearby streets.

even though it was crowded when i went, i did not have to wait very long, especially since i was alone and was willing to sit at the small bar toward the back. there are windows everywhere, so the place feels very airy and spacious.

they have lots of different kinds of specialty coffees and lots of different kinds of egg/omelet dishes, pancakes, and belgian waffles. i had a very satisfying belgian waffle plus iced coffee for approximately $10.

Best Food-Best Service

by ArizonaExpert about Roy's

Roy's is a wonderful place tucked into a shopping center right off Scottsdale Road. I have eaten there twice, most recently with prospective employers from Seattle. Even they were impressed with the experience from start to finish.

The staff is great! They are attentive, educated on the menu, and willing to help with decisions and choices.

We had 5 different fish dishes and they were all great! The appetizer platter was superb, and we had the vegetarian ravioli, which was outstanding.

The place has indoor and outdoor seating, and was quiet enough for us to do business. I had the mahi-mahi...crusted with nuts and prepared perfectly over vegetables. Can't say enough good things about the food and the people at Roy's.

See Mountain Lions and Bobcats!

by jumpingnorman

The mission of the Southwest Wildlife Rehabilitation and Educational Foundation is rescuing and rehabilitating injured and orphaned wildlife native to the southwest - and you can be a part of it! For only US$10 for adults, and $7 for kids, you can see mountain lions, bobcats, bears and other animals that thrive in the desert.

To achieve their mission, the Southwest Wildlife even has an on-site medical care center, wild animal rehabilitation, full-time wildlife consultation and education services, an accredited sanctuary for those animals that cannot be released, and volunteer dispatch teams that immediately respond to wildlife emergencies.

Truly this is an organization that we can (and should) support ion Arizona!
