More about Gainey Suites
Gainey Suite Hotel
We stayed at the Gainey Suites Hotel and it was great. If you have kids, this is the place in Scottsdale. The two room suites are clean, comfortable and having a full kitchen for lunch or dinner with kids is wonderful. You won't have to worry about breakfast because a huge buffet is included, from cereal to pancakes , etc. There is also a complimentary wine tasting buffet every evening. The pool is beautiful and the staff goes the extra mile without being prompted. There are first class restaurants all around the property, just short walk and the greatest boutiques for a one of a kind item. Gainey Suites hotel is a wonderful place and is in a beautiful and convenient area.
We stayed at the Gainey Suites Hotel for three days in April 2007. We had 6 people (4 adults and 2 children) and stayed in a two bedroom suite. The rooms were clean and well appointed. One of the bedrooms had a nice little balcony with a table and 2 chairs. The pool area was very nice. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The cookies each afternoon were a definite plus too. There were many nice shops and restaurants just a short walk away. We were very pleased with our stay.
2nd time staying...Once again great!
This was the second time we stayed at the Gainey Suites (see my previous review from August 2006) and this time was just as great. We were able to get the same exact room (2 bedroom with pool/courtyard view) and had no problems checking in early or checking out late. The front desk staff was very friendly and always accommodating to my numerous requests. The girls and guys up front also are quite knowledgeable of the area and were able to direct me to various restaurants or locations.
There were a few light bulbs out in our suite and the workstation desk phone in the living room area was not working. I notified front desk about this on our way out to dinner. When we returned, all items I requested be fixed were done. There was even a kind note from the maintenance manager acknowledging that the items requested had been fixed. I was very impressed with their speed on this, and the fact that it was pretty late in the day for anyone to come by and fix it; I expected it would get done the next day but it was done that evening!
Everything was clean and they were just completing installing new carpeting in the hallways. I asked what other renovations they were planning and the response from the girls at reception was they were planning for new flat screen televisions and new carpeting in the suites as well. The hotel continually has a clean, pleasant, fresh, and friendly ambiance. I once again have no complaints. To top it off, the lobby and courtyard outside were decorated for the holidays; it was beautiful.
The Paradise Bakery adjacent to the hotel (in the Gainey Village) is really, really good. Sandwiches, soups, salads, bakery, you name it. The service is fast and the food is just great. I think we had at least 3 or 4 meals there during our stay, and the great part was you could order "to-go" and walk a few steps back to hotel to eat in your suite. Its really a gem and definitely worth trying, especially if your a guest at the hotel!
We're planning another trip back to AZ in the very near future and I've already made plans to reserve a few nights AGAIN at the Gainey Suites. Frankly, if something is great, why look for something else?
We were excited when we pulled up to the hotel because it looked very nice. We loved our room even more, then the disappointments began. The service sooned proved to be no better than in a 3rd world country. We asked for a crib for our child to take a nap - 1 1/2 hour later we called to ask where it was and they said they are fixing it, it was "broken". When it finally arrived, it was so old and unsafe that it would not have passed any safety test at a used children's store. We complained and even offered to go buy them a pack-n-play to leave with them if they would subrtract it from our bill. They wanted to bring us a different crib instead. It turned out better, but still rickety. Then we found out our furnace and air conditioning didnt' work. They sent someone up but they couldn't fix it. Our entire 3-night stay it never worked. Our room was constantly cold. At 9AM the shower was completely cold - so shower early or at night. Like, goosebump cold. The CD player didn't work. The breakfast "warm" food was horrible. The edge of my pancake was actually crunchy. And don't get to breakfast 1 minute late becasue they will come clear the food away even if people are standing in line to get it. Clearly, a very disappointing experience.
Great value and quality
Great location, clean, surprisingly good continental breakfast, cocktail hour with beer and wine complimentary every night, nice courtyard with pool. Definately not the Ritz but for the price you can not beat it. Best of all the staff were very friendly and competent.
This hotel was OK, that is the best way to describe it. There was nothing special. If you are looking for a nice spa getaway in Arizona...this is not the place to be.
The beds were comfortable but otherwise it was just a place to stay.
Good location, close to everything. Clean, good daily service.
Friendly. Mostly oriented for elderly people. Adequate breakfast and 'happy hour' menu.
Travelocity description was not correct - no tennis courts, very small fitness room.
Don't like the beds - too soft, looks very nice but you sleep like in hammock.
Outstanding hotel and staff. Room beautifully furnished and very clean.
We stayed at this hotel on July 14-15, 2007. Everything about the hotel was perfect and really made our visit to Phoenix-Scottsdale a wonderful weekend. We were really impressed with the decoration and furnishing of the rooms. Large flat screen LG TV and wonderful beds. The staff got our boarding passes for SWA while we visited Canyon Lake (another great place to visit). The staff was outstanding at all levels. We highly recommend this hotel as a must for those visiting this area of Arizona.
Watch out for Cockroaches!
The resort is absolutely gorgeous. However, much to my dismay, we found several extremely large cockroaches in our room. Upon bringing this to the front desk manager, he smirked and said "well they are smaller cockroaches than what I have seen in Chicago." I was very disappointed in the way the staff handled this situation and will never stay there again.
Sounds more fancy than it might be...
Stayed at this Hotel with my husband and two friends in May 2008. I was impressed by their website but very hesitant since there weren't too many current reviews on this site or anywhere else. I took the chance and was pleased on certain things, but also disappointed by others. First off, when taking the first tour of the grounds, it really did seem significantly smaller than pictures I had seen online and seemed more like a 3 star and a hotel rather than a resort. The pool and common areas were clean, but didn't have the resort feel I was hoping for. Maybe it was my fault for ignoring the actual name as a hotel =) When we entered our room though, it was pleasant and the beds were SO comfortable. The other three in our group would say otherwise though...it was TOO soft. Everything was standard hotel like but it was nice to have granite countertops in the kitchen. There was a full size fridge, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, stove, sink and it even included dishwashing liquid and a sponge which was a plus. The living room was a little dark (lacking light), but it had a pull out sofa, individual chair, and desk, lots of room, but really lacked funtion and flow. There was a TV in each of the three rooms since we stayed in a 2 bedroom. One bedroom included a king bed and a full bath and the other had 2 queens and a full bath. Each of the rooms were pretty tight -- there was room enough for the bed or beds and then just enough room to close the door. We had nowhere to put our luggage, but in the living room!
The breakfast was pretty nice, which included some hot items like eggs, pancakes, etc. There were also bagels, fruit, etc.
The "happy hour" in the afternoon had complimentary snacks which was great! We had popcorn one day and buffalo wings and egg rolls another. Oh, can't forget the yummy fresh cookies they had available upon check in (and every afternoon at reception!) and the two stuffed teddy bears in our room. They had a computer in the lobby and you could also print out your boarding pass if needed. They had accommodated our late check out without charging us as well. I think what they may have been lacking in parts of their hotel, they made up with all of these little perks.
All in all, it was a comfortable space, although a little far from downtown though (about 15 minute drive), but don't expect anything like a resort. It would probably be a great place for families since it was reasonably priced and had the suite format.
