More about Holiday Inn Express

Great value

by A TripAdvisor Member

We stayed here for two nights, the rooms had just been renovated, so were nice and fresh and clean, they are still renovating some of the rooms on the third floor. The pool and area were nice a little small for the size of the hotel. Its nice to have the happy hour and the complimentary breakfast. Nice staff and very clean facility.

Wonderful!

by TripAdvisor Member craigandstef

Rooms were clean and tastefully decorated. Our first night we had some folks above us that sounded like elephants at 2am in the morning, called front desk and they called security. The next morning the front desk reps offered to move us to another room overlooking the pool. The shuttle bus was available to Old Town Scottsdale when not in use to the airport. They also offer to pick you up. The hotel manager Trisha is just wonderful and sensitive to your needs. All the hotel employees I found to be exceptionally friendly. The complimentary breakfast was fresh and abundant. Although we didn't go to the happy hour reception, there are many bars and restaurants within a couple of miles that were quite good. Next time we're in Scottsdale, we'll stay here again.

All you could ask for in family stay

by TripAdvisor Member jolinegk

We stayed here one night on the way to Disneyland, and while this place was not as fancy as the Grand Californian that we eventually stayed in it was the perfect spot for a weary family looking for a good pool and a good night's sleep.
Our suite was spacious, and we loved the balcony facing the pool. Those who don't like pool noise won't appreciate it, although closing the door did block out most of the sound. The pool is smallish but never seemed crowded.
We adults appreciated the free cocktail hour, and the whole family liked the free breakfast.
The hotel is close to Old Town and a variety of great restaurants, so it was nice not having to drive far for dinner.
All in all, this was a good spot, very nicely priced for Scottsdale and the service was quite friendly.

The Place to Stay in Scottsdale

by TripAdvisor Member rpsv

My wife and I just got back from Scottsdale. The Holiday Inn Express there is THE place to stay. Extremely clean and comfortable rooms. The staff was very friendly and competent. Someone was always around to help if you needed it. Of course, the breakfast was as usual, delicious, as most HI Expresses are.

Great value

We loved this hotel more than the other upscale hotels we stayed at. The rooms were spacious, quiet, and spotless. The rate and location were great. We would stay there again on our next visit.

Highly recommended, couldn't be more pleased

by TripAdvisor Member kristi_89

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express while my mom had surgery at a nearby hospital. I was extremely impressed with the service, amenities, and value at this hotel. For a rate of $76/night, it was much more than I expected.

The rooms were very spacious and clean, with their new "Fresh" bedding which includes extra pillows (firm and soft) and triple-sheeting (instead of a bedspread that is never cleaned!). The room amenities were excellent -- microwave, coffeemaker, refrigerator. I particularly like the "suite" layout with a separate seating area. Oh, and free high-speed Internet!

The breakfast buffet was excellent. Lots of choices.

We didn't explore the area much, but the hotel is close to Old Town Scottsdale, Scottsdale Fashion Plaza, and tons of restaurants. Very well-located and easy to get around the area.

Mostly, however, I was extremely impressed with the staff. My first day there, I had some time to kill and asked for a shuttle ride to and from the mall (they will shuttle you anywhere within 3 miles). They were also happy to give restaurant recommendations. At one point, we had to ask them to call 911 as my mom wasn't doing well, and they handled it very calmly and professionally, and asked after her every time I came back to the hotel. They extended our original reservation several times with no problems, offered late checkout if needed, and were generally very helpful and flexible. I really appreciated that!

All in all, I would highly recommend this hotel.

Unbelieveable nightmare

by TripAdvisor Member melkmail

Checked in so tired after a long trip, and in the evening, not daytime hours, got loud banging on the door out of nowhere - !!!

I looked out the peephole, saw it was the maintenance staff, asked what they wanted. They said they had a situation with the door locks that had to be fixed RIGHT THEN. I am wearing nothing, totally freaked out and interrupted, asking them through the door if they can please come back a little later, and they insist absolutely not. I continue to say that this cannot happen now, and one man says, "If you do not open the door in ten minutes I am coming in anyway." I really could not believe what I was hearing.

We wrap up in towels, our moment utterly destroyed, and open the door. Harsh light from the hallway streams in as two and then three maintenance guys work on the door lock and other guests walk by and peer in at our darkened room with candles and soft music playing, at the girl wearing only a towel...

They insist that it had to be done right then or the room key wouldn't work the next day. So of course when I return to the hotel after going out to the gym the next day the room key doesn't work. Nor does either machine to reprogram the keys at the front desk. I am running late to get back in and get showered and dressed, and time ticks away while they call someone from maintenance to come back again - the same guy who threatened to barge in whether I liked it or not the night before!!! I say that it is just perfect that after all that the key doesn't work after all, and he says doesn't he know it, that he was at the hotel working on the situation "all night". In other words? He could have saved his disrespectful threatening boorish behavior and left two people to enjoy their privacy, since just as I thought the situation was being worked on throughout the entire night (and not even finished being fixed by the following day).

I get back into my room, and the phone rings. The general manager is calling, but strangely not to apologize for the behavior of the staff or get my input. She is calling to insist that I get a visit for "service", even though I had placed do not disturb on my door and asked for towels and no cleaning earlier in the day. Having stayed in hotels for years, I have never heard of the "policy" that she pointed out of hotel employees gaining entry into each guest's room "every two days". Of course, I had been in this hotel for less than one day, and when I pointed that out the "policy" suddenly changed to every day. So apparently the Holiday Inn Express in Scottsdale will force its way into your room every single day of your visit, whether you like it or not. According to management, that is their policy. Ever heard of this policy? Me neither. Apparently the management here decided that rather than treat me as a guest who had endured ridiculous treatment, they would add more ridiculous treatment and harassment.

I am a rewards member of this chain, and at no point during any of this did I ever raise my voice or utter obscenities or threats or anything inappropriate. What I did do was point out my dissatisfaction and anger about the situation. It is because of this that during the above phone conversation when I was told that I had to accept entry into my room whether I liked it or not that I was told that I had to leave the hotel. The GM KICKED ME OUT of the hotel!!!

So to recap, the staff at this hotel harassed me and barged into my room, continued to harass and annoy me, and within 24 hours evicted ME from the property. This entire case is thoroughly documented in the guest relations files for IC Hotels, and this story is in no way exagerrated or fraudulent. After arriving exhausted in Phoenix the evening before and never really getting to rest or relax away from the banging on the door and interruptions and phone calls and demands, I found myself in my car in 100 degree heat with two little dogs driving around Phoenix wondering where I would get a decent rate at a pet friendly property without a prior reservation. Of course my entire schedule for the day had to be cancelled.

If you stay at this hotel, you MAY have privacy and autonomous access to the room that you pay for. Or if the staff decides otherwise, you may have none, and if you do make any complaints about your stay to the hotel staff you may well be rewarded not with apologies and attempts to rectify the situation but with quite the opposite.

Great Scottsdale Hotel and Location

by TripAdvisor Member napili

I live in Sedona and have been staying at this fine Scottsdale hotel for five years whenever flying from Sky Harbor Airport. For a very reasonable rate you can stay here the night before flying, park your car for free, and take the free shuttle to and from the airport! And you get a beautifully redecorated suite, superior bed, nice pool, great breakfast, and a most friendly staff! I have never any any complaints with this fine hotel and highly recommend it. The location near Old Town Scottsdale sure beats any of those airport hotels in bad areas of Phoenix!

Great value-nice place

by TripAdvisor Member JohansenRJ

My partner and I stayed at the hotel Sep 30/Oct 1 and were totally satisfied with our stay. The location was super convenient to everything in Scottsdale, the room was large, clean, and inexpensive, and there was plenty of free self parking. The front desk staff was a bit inexperienced, but friendly and helpful. I'll definitely stay here again.
