by musaphir

Hi
my wife and i plan to visit scottsdale, arizona in the third week of apri 07 and seek advise regarding likely weather during that period.is this regin prone to high winds and tornados during this part of the year.
other than golfing what could be suitable activities for mid sixties years old.
is it possible to move around in public transit or car hire is recommended.our accommodation base will be 63rd on camelback in scottsdale.

You are in an area that you can walk around to The Fashion Square mall and the Phoenecian but, it is quite a hike in heat to anywhere else. I saw busses but, I don't know the schedule, I would recommend a car. A Cab both ways from the airport to 63rd and Camelback would be about $70
try www.wunderground.com for historical weather at that time. It was almost 100F / 39C 2 weeks ago and it dropped to the mid 70's the week after.

I don't think you'll have any high winds or tornadoes in April, but it could be very warm. I remember some March days being close to 100. I agree that it's very nice to have a car in Scottsdale as things are quite spread out. There are lots of good restaurants and I'd even suggest you drive the 80 miles or so to Tucson and visit the Sonoran Desert Museum.. a real treat. I'd also recommend visiting Frank Lloyd Wright's home and workplace which is also in Scottsdale. It's a very interesting spot.

Yes, Taliesin West. Also you must go to Sedona to see the Red Rocks.

I've been living in the Phoenix area for about 15 years now. Didn't know we had tornadoes! The monsoon's can bring high winds with them when they come in July or August, but April is typically amazing. Temps are typically in the low 90's then - not as bad as it sounds when the humidity is only around 15%. I don't know 'age appropriate' activities as some sixty year olds I know like to jump out of airplanes, others want nothing more than a snooze in front of the T.V. What types of things do you typically enjoy, I can give you pointers then as there are a million and one things to do around here. As for transportation you will likely want to rent a car to drive yourself around. There are buses and cabs available, but the buses are typically to far spaced out to really get you where you want to go, cabs tend to require an hour or more notice and can really get expensive as our cities here are VERY spread out.

Sunny skies and (relative) warmth

Living in Boston and having spent almost all of my life in the Northeast United States, I just LOVED being able to swim in a pool, outdoors, in the warm sun in January! Palm Trees, giant Cacti and Mountains! Beautiful!

Amazing Persian food and ambiance

by jumpingnorman about The Persian Room

We have eaten about over a dozen times in this wonderful Persian restaurant in Scottsdale...we love the thick chunks of marinated spring lamb loin, seasoned, skewered with bell peppers, onions and tomatoes...yummy kebobs...and of course, we love the way they cook the basmati rice. One serving is so much that we never really ever finish a dish per person - we always need a box to take home! hehehe...My wife swears by the Persian ice cream and we have a friend (in middle of picture) from Canada whom we always bring to thie restaurant because of the ice cream! We also love the waitress from Ukraine who always serves us...with a smile!Happy Hour on Tues-Fri, 4-7PM and they give away the best hummus in the Valley for FREE! (along with reduced prices for wine, beer, cocktails).

down-home breakfast and coffee in carefree, AZ!

by susiemargare about black mountain coffee shop, alias black mtn cafe

this restaurant is open every day from 6 am to 2 pm, but i got there too late in the day, so i didn't eat there. but i have included it b/c so many other people have mentioned it under the title of the black mountain CAFE. it is now the black mountain COFFEE SHOP.

it looked like they had a terrific selection of breakfast dishes, from simple to fancy. the atmosphere was very casual. this looked like the kind of place where the locals would hang out.

go north from scottsdale on scottsdale road; there will be desert on both sides of you. from darlington road (which is what scottsdate road turns into), turn right onto ho road. restaurant is in patio area on the right side of the street (#123).

Galleries Galore!

by Yaqui

There are so many wonderful and beautiful galleries to stroll along and see in the old downtown area. Parking along here is not bad at all and not far from the galleries are places to eat at. Hours vary from gallery to gallery, but many are open at night too.
