Piestewa Peak-Summit Trail
by BruceDunning
This hike was nearly as challenging as Camelback. Summit Trail-It is 1 1/4 miles one way, but elevation gain of 1200 feet at 60 degree angle makes it equal to about 2 miles one way. The trail is rocky nearly all the way and they are rough, jagged and uneven. Some flat path is part of the trail, but there is also slick rock to climb. The trail wraps around the back side of the mountain before coming back around the the front when getting close to the top.
There are about 250,000 showing up to hike yearly, and 80% are locals, with 80% of those in good shape at 20-30 years for 90% of the trekkers. I was one of those 2% at 65 years that climbed, and all wrapped up in knee supports, and needing a hip replacement badly(to do in Feb). That, though was the challenge for me, and I made it back down unscathed, but tired for sure. Hands and feet
Fun for meat eaters
by Enchiridion about Rio Sabor Brazil
This is a Brazilian-style steakhouse, a churrascaria. They provide buffet-style salad and hot side dishes, but the centerpeice is grilled meat served in twelve courses, one at a time, at your table. The meat is brought to your table on a long skewer and carved on the spot. The successive servings include sausage, chicken, ham, pork, lamb, and at least five cuts of beef -- with a final slice of grilled pineapple. Each serving is fairly modest, but the cummulative effect is substantial. They cook the meats slowly and keep cutting the outside portion, so it always has a nice grilled flavor without getting overdone. Clever, those Brazilians.
The staff was friendly and patiently explained the setup to us churrascaria novices. The food was delicious and the experience great fun. I liked the lamb the best, but you will get to sample them all. They let you skip any kind you do not prefer, and get more of the kinds you do.
Sushi North Scottsdale
by ArizonaExpert about Sushi Brokers
I do eat other foods than sushi, but I have to tell you about this place. I was at Sushi Brokers opening night a couple years ago and visit at least once every other week. They have only gotten better each year. The place is in a strip-type center (albeit upscale) just north of Frank Lloyd Wright on Scottsdale Road. The service has always been good, and the wait staff are usually young and okay, nice looking.
The best thing about Sushi Brokers is happy hour, which is 7 days a week. Great deals on sushi and drinks. We sometimes get out of there full (2 of us) for $25! I am talking $1 Hamachi...2 piece!!! Try the spring rolls...outstanding! The happy hour menu is limited, but still has a nice variety. We took all 7 of us there for the first time latst week and got out of there for under $50.
The downfall is seating, although with outdoor tables, there is some relief. Problem is during the summer when we vie for the few tables inside. I don't think they take reservations either.
Love this place for an extensive menu, great wait staff, and the best happy hour (until 6:30 I think)! The sushi has always been excellent. We have ordered off the regular menu a couple of times for fish and other things, and have never been disappointed.
Old Town-Adobe Mission
by BruceDunning
The mission church was built in 1933 to serve the needs of Mexicans in the barrio there and the Catholic settlers. The building is made up of 14,000 adobe (mud) bricks weighing 50 pounds each. The mission became run down by 1950-60's, and not until 2005 when a volunteer group bought it, did is see revival. It is now again an active church, and many dollars late, looks like as in the old days. Repair costs exceeded $ 1million, and even all the stained glass was reworked.

Another interesting course is...
by JERICO
Another interesting course is Troon North (intersting in the sense of the Chinese psuedo-curse 'May you live in interesting times'). It is target golf at its finest. I found the course extremely difficult, but also one of the most scenic. Green fee's were north of $200 a round though, so it can be quite prohibitive.
