How's the weather in Sept?
by Gwhynn
I will be coming to Scottsdale, AZ in September and since I have never visited Arizona before I'm not sure how to dress/pack. Do you have any ideas? Also looking for tour ideas (I have my eye on the Hummer ride and the Hot Air Balloon Ride):)~ FUN!

There are some outfits that offer survivor courses that are interesting. Anything from a few days to a few hours of hiking the desert and getting good tips on survival skills.
Wonderful restaurants and shopping of course as well

furance-like in early september and only oven-like in late september! LOL In fact labor day can sometimes be one of the hottest times. I'll never forget camping in Lake Havasu on labor day weekend 1994, 118 to 121 each day.
I'm going myself in about two weeks, my Dad says it has been a balmy 115 at his house!
One tip, make sure you respect the heat. Since it is dry many people from the east underestimate the heat, they think "oh it's a dry heat" so it does not affect you. Wrong! Since it is dry you won't notice you are sweating as much as normal since the sweat evaporates, but you still need to drink water, bring a hat and wear light colored clothing and sunblock.

Hey there. It's about 115 every day lately and it will be at least in the 90's in September. I'm smart...going to Africa in Septemeber!!!! Anyway...shopping is great, restaurants are great. Wear tanks, skirts, shorts, camis...that sort of thing. Don't forget a swimsuit or 2. Bring lots of sunscreen. If you want to do hiking, Camelback and Sqaw Peak are good, but go early in the morning and bring lots of water. A hot air balloon ride might be cool! If you like spicy Thaii, visit Malees on Main.
Travel Tips for Scottsdale
sunglasses and suncreen a must year round.
by JLoeb
Although Phoenix/Scottsdale boast year round weather it does get cold in the winter months. Jan through March can get quite cool. Be prepared when visting during these months. Days are cool and nights can get cold. A light jacket or sweater will do. Summer is monsoon season so be prepared to get caught in one of the sudden unexpected storms. Good news they do not last long and soon the sun is back out. There are many Walgreen locations throughout the area if you should leave your Rx @ home. Due to the extremely bright conditions you should rememebr to bring a fliter for your camera if you are at all interested in taking photo's out in the open spaces.
Heaven on a plate
by EllenH about Roy's
This is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to.
On the recommendation of the owner/chef restaurant where I work and a co-worker as well, I decided to splurge a little and take the family to Roy's. It is very nice fine dining, they call it Hawian fusion, and they use the freshest ingredients available. The appetizers were outstanding, potstickers with chipotle cream, bbq baby back ribs that the meat fell right off of, shrimp with wasabi cocktail sauce. The entrees were also amazing, mahi mahi with lobster butter and pork pot roast with teriyaki sauce that fell apart it was so tender. Reservations highly recommended. The most amazing part was dessert. Melting chocolate souffle, you have to order it with your meal because it is made to order. The timing of the courses in this restaurant was perfect and the service was outstanding.
We had VT Meet at a Grimaldi's Pizzeria
by jumpingnorman about Grimaldi's Pizzeria
When we had a VT Meet (with Joiwatani, Basaic, Avsent and Daytrippers), we chose the Grimaldi's Pizzeria at Peoria due to its amazing ambience and Coal Brick-Oven pizza, calzones, homemade salads and desserts. But Grimaldi's is actually found in 5 locations in the Valley, two of them in Scottsdale!

“The McDowell Sonoran Conservancy champions the completion and sustainability of the McDowell Sonoran Preserve for the benefit of this and future generations. We connect the community to the Preserve through public and private partnerships, environmental education and stewardship."
This is a great group of people, conservationists and naturalists in Scottsdale, Arizona - and they offer guided hikes through their website! It is a very educational tour of the McDowell Sonoran Preserve and best of all, it is FREE! However, tours are seasonal...
McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park
by AVG2319
Visiting Arizona with kids? This is an awesome park in Scottsdale. The park is centrally located 30 acres of fun for kids. Train rides are $1 (if you are visiting during Xmas, expect a long wait to ride the train, otherwise it isn't bad), carasoul rides, nice large playground area, Train museum located inside an old train and also a gift shop. This place is a great stop for the kids to unwind and for you too.
