Spectacular views, wonderful food, and sincere hospitality await those fortunate enough to stay at the Alta Vista Bed and Breakfast. Gaila and Peter Smith have created something special here in the desert. My wife and I enjoyed the quiet, the abundant wildlife (especially a very personable road runner), and the laid back atmosphere. Much of the food is grown or raised on the premises, including the eggs, grapefruit, and lemons for fresh-squeezed lemonade. The grounds are attractive and well kept. One of our fondest memories is sitting in the hot tub watching the full moon rise over the Rincon Mountains. We have stayed in a number of B&B's in the Tucson area, but this is the best. We will definitely return.
Alta Vista lives up to its name and then some
Peter, Linda and I wish to thank you for the wonderful time we had while staying at your B&B this past April. We loved the room and your house is spacious with a welcoming feeling. As birders we appreciated the number of birds seen on your property and especially your resident Road Runner who daily jumps up on the outdoor kitchen window sill for a meat ball treat.
The breakfasts were something to look forward to and both great tasting and in ample proportions. The group we stayed with had lively and interesting conversations.
Having Margarita's on the veranda overlooking the mountains with the night lights of Tucson below us was a very special treat. Not something we normally do at home.
We will definitely recommend your place to our birding friends and any others who are thinking of a Tucson trip. We look forward to staying with you again at some future time. The time proved all too short.
Fabulous! Altavista is my favorite B&B in the USA
My husband and I have stayed in B&B's all over the US and Europe, and I always recommend Altavista B&B in as the best quality B&B in Tucson, and in the USA. We have stayed in the White Wicker room and the New England room. Both rooms as well as the entire home are very clean and comfortable. The New England room is appointed with beautiful family heirlooms from New Hampshire and Maine, where the hosts were raised. The White Wicker room has it's own fireplace. The bed linens are exceptionally high quality and the pillows and mattresses are so comfortable that we don't want to get out of bed in the mornings. But we leave one oasis for another: the gourmet breakfast and delicious coffee always pull us out of bed. They make the best fruit muffins we have ever had, and the variety and portions are generous. Peter and Gaila are the friendliest hosts who do whatever they can to make guests become friends who will return time after time. If my husband were to ask me where in the entire world I would like to go, I would say Altavista B&B in Tucson.
The best Inn experience we've had
Having stayed in many Inns over the years, I can say that the Alta Vista's attention to detail, very nice owners, good food, and all the little "extras" made this a very enjoyable stay for us. I would highly recommend it.
Best B&B ever!
August 14, 2005. Last month, my husband, son and I stayed at the Alta Vista B&B in Tucson, which turned out to be the highlight of our trip. As frequent visitors of B&Bs throughout the states, we have stayed in many places that have ambience, charm, hospitality, great food, etc, but rarely have found a place that combines all of these-until Alta Vista! We truly had a wonderful time there. The Innkeepers, Peter and Gaila Smith were charming and had the perfect combination of being there when we needed without being intrusive. Gaila greeted us when we arrived with some homemade brownies and Rasberry Iced tea, which we enjoyed in the porch overlooking a beautiful courtyard. The scenery was spectacular with the mountains looming in the foreground and a great expanse of desert behind us. They have a lovely pool area with hot tub to also relax in and enjoy the scenery. Gaila recommended some excellent local restaurants for dinner and as our son is still small, we opted to eat in. To our pleasant surprise, when we arrived back with our take-out, Gaila had the table set for us with candles so we could enjoy a romantic meal in comfort. The B&B itself is beautiful and it seems that every little detail has been taken care off. And as for those breakfasts!-Three course affairs with juices, coffee, homemade muffins, prickly pear jams and such delights as frittatas and featherbed eggs made from home grown eggs . We thoroughly enjoyed Peter and Gaila’s company and had some great chats with them. They sent us on our way with some homemade brownies for our trip and a lasting desire to return there before too long.
Beautiful view and loving hosts
Peter and Gaila provide a warm and friendly place to relax and enjoy the best view of Southern Arizona available. The rooms are beautiful with all of the amenities one could need. The hot tub at sunset overlooking the five mountain ranges that surround their remote location is a dream come true. Very romantic and secluded right next to Saguaro National Park East. Any special food requests or information needed about the area is provided with pride and enthusiasm. You will especially enjoy all of the birds in the gardens--even a family of roadrunners stop in the garden for food. And javelinas with their young appear outside the fence. Thank you Peter and Gaila for an unforgetable vacation stop.
Peaceful with stunning views and wildlife too.
We began our stay as guests and left as friends. Due entirely to Peter and Gaila's desire to make you relax and feel quite at home in their superb B&B. Critters in abundance! We saw coyotes every morning. The resident roadrunners were fun to watch as they came for their breakfast. A large group of javelinas made an appearance one evening. A virtual menagerie of wildlife at your window. Rooms superb and spotless. Breakfast can be whatever you wish - eggs, bacon and sausage were even cooked to our special order. The hot tub and pool with the distant mountain views were a fantastic bonus to our stay. We cannot wait to return. Top marks to Alta Vista.
The best of the west!
We loved our stay at the Alta Vista with Gaila and Peter. The Inn is beautiful and our hosts were extraordinary. They made us feel so special.
Your away from the city with lots of birds, flowers and vists from javelina and road runners. GREAT PLACE. Alison & Karlo Mirth
Spectacular view of the Catalina Mountains
Our third stay at Alta Vista and as wonderful as the first time. Great breakfasts, hospitable hosts,
and spectacular scenery and views of the Catalina Mountains. The resident cat is an extra bonus. Always a pleasure to return. Treated like old friends by the hosts Gaila and Peter.
