Taxi service
by Devon11
I am traveling on business to Tucson in early August. I don't think my employer will pay for a rental car. How is the taxi service around Tucson? Is it dependable and available?
Thanks

So your employer will pay for taxis? Because if you're paying for it regardless, it'd probably be cheaper to rent a car yourself. It's about $25/day here and you'll hit that in about 1.5 trips in a taxi. Unless, of course, you're just planning on hanging around your hotel the whole time.
There are several companies in town. Discount is probably the largest.
Taxis are not typical modes of transit, so you'll always have to call to get one, usually wait at least 10 minutes, and it will then be fairly expensive. The only places that I know of that have taxis typically waiting are the airport and one of the Arizona Shuttle stops.

Thanks. It is easier to get them to reimburse me for taxi charges after the trip, rather than approve a rental car in advance. I will see about getting a car then.

try and get management to go for the car - use us as references.
Travel Tips for Tucson
Like good hair - shampoo :-)
by matcrazy1
The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is three in one (like good hair - shampoo :-):
1. zoo,
2. natural history museum
3. botanical garden.
You can see interpretive displays of living animals and plants native to the Sonoran Desert. This desert covers southeastern California, southern Arizona and New Mexico, southwestern Texas and the mexican states of Sonora and Baja California.
Packing List
by Angela0667
This is a place that you'll need your sun-glasses and sun screen! It's very hot! So hot that the residents have 'egg-frying' contests on the sidewalk! So...keep your shoes on! There is humidity - it comes from all the canals that they built so it isn't necessarily a dry heat as some would believe. In the evenings, it's beautiful! It cools down where at times you can open your windows and enjoy the breeze...save on a cooling bill!
This is NOT Manhattan
by matcrazy1
Look at my picture, please. There is another skyscraper in Tucson downtown. Black building, not the tallest one there, looked a little interesting, I think.
Hmm... belive me, Tucson with a few tall buidings in a downtown is not Manhattan in NYC.
Best Mexican Food - You may see a low rider too
by ms_molly about Nico's Tacos
For the BEST Mexican food, go to Nico's. There are six locations in Tucson, I think. You want to get the Carne Asada burrito. The atmosphere is horrible..think converted fast food restaurant BUT the carne asada burrito is the BEST. Every time I visit Tucson, I go to Nico's first. If you go late on Friday nights, you might get lucky and see the low riders. This is really good food. I actually miss it when I am home. Carne Asade Burrito. You must try it. It is so good that you will think you have died and gone to food heaven. Quite frankly, it is burrito nirvana. The burrito is fairly large and inexpensive!
A Taste of Italy
by lamentforicarus about Gavi Italian Restaurant
Gavi serves up a variety of delicious southern Italian dishes in an atmosphere saturated by the soccer paraphernalia that covers the walls. The servers are attentive, knowledgable, and helpful. Gavi's menu boasts every kind of pasta variation known to man, as well as seafood, chicken, pork, and veal. Be forewarned, there are several courses and portions are large. Should you save room for desert, the cannoli comes highly recommended.
