A beautiful winding road extends from Tucson to Mt. Lemmon and it's a trip you cannot miss. You go from desert to mountain and pass by the charred forest rebuilding itself from the forest fires of 2004. Before long you see snow covered pines and reach the slopes of Mt. Lemmon.
Catalina State Park. This scenic desert park offers camping, hiking, picnicking, bicycling, horseback riding, plant and wildlife viewing, and an archaeological site, all just a few minutes from Tucson. Catalina State Park is located within Coronado National Forest, and is managed by Arizona State Parks in cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service. The park encompasses 5,493 acres at elevations near 3,000 feet.
Fantastic Sonoran style Mexican cuisine. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Mariachis wander in and out throughout the day and night adding additional ambience. A simple but extremely worthwhile experience, perhaps the finest Mexican food in town, in a town full of great Mexican food!!! Be forewarned: It is always extremely crowded, and not very big. You will most likely have to wait. I have been eating here for 30 years, and it's always crowded, but even worse since President Clinton stopped by for lunch about 10 years ago and made it even more famous. Cocido.
Unlike most of the Mexican Restaurants in Arizona and indeed the US, this restaurant features food spiced the way they do in Mexico City. The decor is nice and the restaurant is a little fancier than most I have been to. They also have a mariachi band that strolls through the dining area and plays requests. This can be a plus or a minus depending on your taste. They have six restaurants in the Tucson and Phoenix areas. I have only been to the one on Oracle in Tucson. The enchilada platter was pretty good and the margarita was excellent.
