by RACCOON1
If you are in Tucson and want to take a drive through the desert head to Kitt Peak SW of Tucson along highway 86 .
Kitt Peak is the home of the National Optical Astronomy Observatory ( NOAO ).
There are 19 optical telescopes on the mountain along with two radio telescopes.
There is a visitor center .
Travel distance from Tucson is 56 miles one way ( 46 miles along highway 86 and another 10 miles for the climb to the top ).
Total time required , there and back : budget for half a day minimum.
What is outside a downtown?
by matcrazy1
OK, the world looks quite different outside a downtown - there are huge residential areas mixed with many business areas.
In Tucson they take a lot of area - you can just drive and drive and look at never ending houses along loooong streets.
Most (almost all) houses are 1-floor (don't they like stairs?) and have usually medium size (in European sense) or big size yards (frontyard and backyard, what about "sideyard"? :-)... as I know they don't have gardens, gardens are at palaces hehe.
So maybe it would be better to LIVE in Tucson and to VISIT European old cities hehe.
Nogales
by Rhondaj
Since Tuscon is so close to Mexico it's easy to take a day trip on down. Take Interstate 19 from the city. There is first a Nogales AZ, then you can cross the border by car or foot into Nogales, MX. Be careful if you go by car to stay within 21 km. Or you'll have to pass through immigration services. For Nogales, just go on in. It's one big flea market basically! (I do not overuse that word people!)
Always scammers afoot, so be wary. Don't ask anyone to take a picture of you and yours, cuz' they'll want to charge you for it! geesh!
Plush
by bottleofdoom about Plush
Large club with 2 bars. Has plush red carpeting everywhere except dance floor. Live music mostly concentrating on southwestern/country music. If you see locals Teddy Morgan, Al Perry, Fourkiller Flats or Rodeo Queen listed in The Tucson Weekly check them out! They're some of our best talent. Be warned that it is a very smoky place. You can hang out in the other room if you're not interested in the music. Drinks are rather pricey though. None
