More about Sam Hughes Inn
A gracious and laid-back B&B in an old Tucson neighborhood.
Sam Hughes Inn is a small, urban B&B with a laid-back charm in an old Tucson neighborhood that reflects what Tucson used to be. The Inn is located across the street from the University of Arizona, so many parents stay there. If it's a football weekend, it will be hard to get a room there. However, the Inn's website makes it easy to see if there's room for you on a particular date. In the winter season, prices are higher (understandable) with a 2-night minimum (also understandable).
The house itself is charming and has a large and lovely, tree-shaded patio in the back. The living room is large and comfy and the breakfast is hearty and full. We've stayed in the same room each time and it is charming, too. Can't remember its name, but I believe it is the most expensive one available; you'll figure it out ont he website. Room is not fancy or chic but feels like Tucson with tasteful furnishings and conveniences.
We are repeat customers, which may say more than all the above patter. Susan Banner, the proprietor, is friendly, business-like and most considerate. She keeps the place and the grounds in tiptop condition and stays on top of her reservations.
Sam Hughes Thumbs Up
I enjoyed the lovely, private casita and peeked at the other rooms at the inn for future lodging options. The rooms are homey and attractive. The common rooms have wonderful furniture and art work on the walls. The courtyard was wonderful - I spent hours relaxing there in the morning and evening. The owner is helpful - loaned me her cell phone and investigated bike shops for me.
The Inn is right next to the SE corner of the UA campus and just steps away from a coffee shop and restaurant, although in a quiet neighborhood.
I definitely plan to stay here again.
We stayed here while vising our freshman son at U of A. Great location within walking distance to the football stadium. Warm welcome and good sightseeing advice from owner Susan Banner. Friendly clientele. Comfortable room with lovely patio.
Charming Bed & Breakfast with delightful Southwest Hospitality
Nestled in the unique historic Sam Hughes neighborhood of Tucson the Sam Hughes Inn was everything I had hoped it would be.
Centrally located, quiet, and charming with cozy comfortable beds, and delicious breakfasts served by a charming hostess.
I'll defiantly be back!
A genuine Southwest stay
From the initial phone contact with Susan @ Sam Hughes Inn was impeccable B & B hospitality. An email confirming out stay with address and directions was quite helpful. After arrival a quick tour of a lovely period style home - updated and extremely comfortable...even a laptop if you forgot yours! I settled in for a quick nap while my son found wi-fi Internet access in our charming cottage separate from the house (everybody was happy)! The sitting garden was luring - but never much time to sit - much to do on Family Weekend. I was impressed with self-serve mosquito repellant for Susan's guests.
The appointments to our room were southwester - not fussy, comfortable and roomy accommodation - a single bed for a teenage boy was very comfortable. Many excellent written suggestions about what to see and where to eat. We took a local walk (and found the best dinner) within a very short walk.
Our stay was short - our memory long - highly suggest a stay with Susan.
PS = A fabulous and healthy breakfast in the a.m.
I travel the world and found a real gem in Tucson.
The room was cozy and comfortable and the patio a beautiful spot to relax and regroup.
The superb morning breakfast was only surpassed by Susan, the Innkeeper, who served it with wit and charm.
No other hotel will meet my expectations as The Sam Hughes Inn has.
We loved this place
We stayed at the Sam Huges Inn in Tucson for four days in mid November. The home is lovely and comfortable with off-street parking and an easy to find location. Our room was spacious and attractive with French doors giving acces to a very pretty patio and garden. The innkeeper/owner, Susan, gave us lots of good tips on sights to see and directions. She also gave us our privacy. She is that rare sort of innkeep who is just attentive enough. If we return to the Tucson area, this would definitely be our choice of place to stay.
Quietest retreat in Tucson
The Sam Hughes Inn was very delightful with the most relaxing of in-town, "Old Tucson" one could find. The neighborhood as well as the Sam Hughes Inn were extremely restful and private, with a huge, huge courtyard, to relax in. Very, very clean. The breakfast was sumptuous and prompt at 8:15, with new faces and stimulating conversation each day. The Great Room is captivating and loaded with a plethora of reading material. Endless brochures and candid help from the Innkeeper was much appreciated with so many places to visit in the surrounding locations. We will stay there again due to it's proximity to UA.
What a find!
The Sam Hughes Inn was nothing short of phenomenal. The location was perfect, as it was within walking distance to the UofA campus. The room was very cute, clean, and full of amenities in case you left anything at home. The bed! Wow! Comfort at its finest. Woke up well rested to fresh coffee, delicious breakfast, and a ever friendly group of fellow "B&B-er's." The host, Susan, was just the icing on the cake. She made the stay even better...we will return again and SOON! Go Wildcats beat ASU!
Memorable breakfast, perfect location!
The Sam Hughes Inn is conveniently located near the University. If you have business at the University, and don't mind walking a few blocks, you can save a lot of money in parking by leaving your car at the Inn all day. Susan's breakfast was truly outstanding--we had french toast with a choice of warm maple syrup or a homemade chunky blueberry syrup, a beautiful fruit salad, and terrific coffee to wash it all down. Breakfast is served family style at one sitting with the other guests, and we enjoyed meeting our fellow travellers from all over the country. The rooms were clean and neat, and the common rooms were delightfully comfortable. Our hostess was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the area.
