MOVING TO TUCSON

by piccola

I WOULD LIKE ANY ADVICE ABOUT LIFE IN TUCSON

Re: MOVING TO TUCSON

by zuriga

Very hot summers....but a beautiful city surrounded by mountains. The cost of living is very inexpensive by most U.S. standards. I have some nice pics on my Tucson page if you want to have a look. The people are very friendly - great outdoor activities like hiking and biking....good restaurants, too.

very, very hot

Tucson is a great southwestern desert town. It is not very modern. New subdivisions are popping up everywhere. Homes made of blocks and red tile roof are the norm. Great weather from October to June. Air conditioning makes the summer livable. If you love salsa and outdoor activity, this is the town.

Nice city with a small town feel. The roads are terrible though. The only interstate is on the far west of town, which means you have to fight traffics and stoplights no matter where to you. The heat isn't as bad you may think. It is very hot, but you get accustomed fast. The mountains are a fantastic benefit for hiking, biking, skiing, etc.. (If Mt. Lemmon survives this fire) The city itself isn't very pretty. A lot of one story buildings, and very dirty.

Travel Tips for Tucson

Hedgerow made of cacti?

by matcrazy1

Sometimes cacti grow very close together, just ony by one. They can form a strange, sharp wall as you can see on my picture taken in Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. Could it be a kind of your hedgerow? Btw it's Organpipe cactus.

TUBAC

by SmileyLeSa

Tubac is an artsy community located 40 minutes south of Tucson and 20 minutes from Nogales (Take Exit 34 off of Rt. 19). Tubac has over eighty galleries and shops that feature hand-crafted items, sculpture, paintings, clothing as well as Mexican imported items.

Tubac is a nice town to stroll through and browse at the various shops. However, the items do seem a bit overpriced. Las Palomas de Tubac was a neat shop featuring all sorts of ceramic, glass and clay pots and decorative pieces. There are a few restaurants in the village that offer both lunch and dinner menus ranging from fine dining to simpler fare.

Public Access Television

by bottleofdoom

If you're stuck in your hotel room & it has cable, check out channels 72,73 & 74 or 97, 98 & 99. What better way to get a sample of Tucson people than to watch them on TV. Especially late night & weekends, there are some strange programs to be amazed by.

Cafe Poca Cosa

by gmoney about Cafe Poca Cosa

Fantastic Mexican Cuisine. Not your traditional mexican fare but a wide mixture of spices, types of food all presented beautifully with a nice salad on the side. The Chef's Choice (a mixture of three of the entrees)

The Best Greek in Town

by bocmaxima about Jim's Greek Patio

Jim's certainly sets itself apart from the many other Greek restaurants in town.
Located on the northwest side of the UA campus, it offers a fresh and tasty version of the typical greek fare. Falafel, greek salads, gyros, baklava, and, my favorite, dolmades.
And, although the other food is great, I mainly come here for dolmades, which are offered as a side choice on a plate. They are the best that I've been able to find in Tucson.
A plate (gyro, falafel, etc + 1 side) runs about $8. Dolmades!
