Re: Avis or Alamo?

by mccalpin

As a generalization (having never been to Tucson), Avis and Hertz generally have the best service at airports, that is, for every Alamo or Budget or whatever bus going by to pick you up at the airport, there will be 3 or 4 Avis and Hertz buses going by. Likewise, Avis and Hertz are more likely to have cars on the airport property while the others are more likely to have them off-property.

Is this a generalization? Yep. Is it generally true across major U.S. airports? In my experience (200,000 miles in the last two years), yep...

ALAMO has been my favorite rental company although they have gotten expensive.... You say you got a deal so I would say go with them.

They tend to offer General Motors cars although some Japanese models can slip in and I have never had a bad experience with them.

Thanks both

I've gone with Alamo as I have past experience and it came out slightly better in the end.

Travel Tips for Tucson

ASDM - Directions!

by matcrazy1

Arizona Sonora Desert Museum is located outside the Saguaro National Park, on North Kinney Road just southeast of western part of Saguaro National Park. Follow the road direction signs from Red Hills Visitor Center. There is a parking lot in front of the museum - look at my picture.

Address:
2021 N. Kinney Rd., Tucson, AZ 85743

Swim in the morning, ski in the afternoon!

by Rhondaj

Winter is when you appreciate Mt. Lemmon the most. We would swim in the pool in the am and then drive up to go skiing in the afternoon. What a difference 9,000 ft. makes!
The ski area is rather small, only two lifts, but at least it's there! The cozy lodge burnt down in the fire of 2003 last June, but the skiing was still available this winter and the lodge is being rebuilt.

TUBAC - ARTIST COLONY

by zuriga

Tubac is an artist's colony about 45 minutes south of central Tucson. I've put a lot of photos here because it's a fun place to visit. One can find real art treasures or the usual Arizona souvenirs. Shelby's Bistro is a terrific place to stop for lunch.

This is not how I got to Tubac... that was my granny.

Cactus Restaurant - opening soon :-)

by matcrazy1 about matcrazy1 Cactus Restaurant :-)

Tucson is a capitol of world's cacti kingdom. But I couldn't find any restaurant specializing with... cacti food there. So, I got an idea of opening matcrazy1 Cactus Restaurant there. What do you think?

My pre-business plan :-):

IMAGINE: walls and roof made of cacti, tables in palo verde trees shadow, tequila drinks (hmm... tequila is not made of cactus, it's from agave) served in drilled cacti pots instead of normal glasses. Mountain Lion (cougar, puma) kiddies playing in the backyard :-), free internet for VT members (up to 1 hour), food (cactus) store.

FOOD: most of the cactus family members are used as food mainly by their fruits.

For example the fruits of the prickly pear cactus (opuntia) are eaten up at the moment in the mediterranean region, where the peculiar climatic characteristics have supposed a perfect adaptation of the plant , being of particular interest in the island of Sicily, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Turkey and Israel. I liked them a lot there!!!

In central America some species of Opuntias are used instead of the tomatoes or are eaten up fried, instead of chips. Apart form the fruits the seeds are also consumed roasted or crushed to prepare cakes.

HOURS:
9am - last consumer :-).
Sorry, closed June - September (heat!) except 2004 (to pay debts hehe).

OPENING CEREMONY - March 2004
RESERVATIONS for big opening ceremony highly recommended ASAP: by e-mail below. Sorry, list of guests is top secret for security reasons.
