ASDM - History
by matcrazy1
As you can write on the table: The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum was founded by Arthur N. Pack and William H. Carr in 1952. It was on 1 September, to be more exact, which is a national holiday in the USA: Labour Day.
We have Labour Day on 1 May in Europe.
Tucson Sidewinders baseball
by sambarnett
The Triple-A, Pacific Coast League affliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks play ball at Tucson Electric Park. This recent stadium (constructed in 1998) holds 11,000 people, although the Sidewinders rarely draw even half that on any given night. The D-backs and Chicago White Sox use TEP as their Spring Training facilities.
The stadium itself is quite comfortable with plenty of space to relax and good views from just about anywhere. Tickets range from $4 to $8, a real bargain for Triple-A ball. The Santa Catalina Mountains make an absolutely gorgeous backdrop. Parking is plentiful and in lots around the ballpark.
I have no complains about the place, but I have heard many players complain that the actual field is one of the worst in baseball. Being in Tucson, I imagine it can be very hot but the night I visited the weather was PERFECT, making my visit to Tucson Electric Park one of the most pleasurable baseball experiences I've had.
See the Falls

Sabino Canyon. there is even a nice cool falls. All this area was made into a park in the depression days by out of work men who were paid a dollar a day and food plus a little tobacco. MAKE WORK PROGRAM back in the 1930.
Old Western Style Beef
by JenNJohn about El Corral
Heaven for carnivores. If you crave meat then this is the place for you. A home-town kind of restaurant that has been around since 1926, El Corral still packs them in every night of the week. It serves good meat at good prices and has a quaint Old West setting that make it a great place for families or anyone else on a budget.
El Corral is sorta hidden in the foothills and is easily overlooked if you don't know it's there. For this reason its usually alot of local people just relaxing and enjoying the evening. Parking can often fill up quick so if there are multiple people in your party try to carpool.
This isn't neccessarily a fancy place, and maybe because of this you can feel right at home the minute you sit down. The food is like your mom might have made it if she wanted to put all that effort in. The food is like your mom might have made it if she wanted to put all that effort in. Homemade mashed potatoes, fresh vegetables, and a good cut of meat cooked any way you like it.
One of the best meat places in town and definately one of the most affordable.
Did I Say the Best? Maybe this is...
by bocmaxima about Zachary's
Zach's is a UA tradition. It sits, almost unsigned, in an ugly building on Sixth Street directly across from campus. There is no a/c, so summers must be cooled by the ineffective evaporative system. Parking is nearly impossible, although the UA has set aside about 4 spaces next to the building for "2 Hour Sixth Street Merchant" parking.
But the pizza is hot (and delicious), the beer is excellent and the service is friendly.
I put the ambiguous title to this because I believe that although Brooklyn has the best New York style pizza in town, Zachary's has the best Chicago style pizza in town. Comparing the two doesn't really work as they're both so different and don't necessarily compete with one another.
These are big slices too. Lots of cheese, fresh toppings and a thick crust. Just one slice may do it for you.
And then there's the beer. They serve a choice of glass or pint, and by pint I mean true imperial pints. They have daily specials (Monday is usually the best) and serve mostly all good, West Coast craft brews (Stone, Lost Coast, Deschutes). The atmosphere is not really one for drinking, but the beer certainly makes it worth it.
The best part is the crowd and atmosphere. You'll see all types in here: families, UA employees, UA students. And the waitresses are almost always eager to make the experience a good one. Lunch special (Mon-Fri): one ginormous slice, a coke and a salad for about $5.80 w/ tax.
