~ El Dorado, Arkansas ~
The Hub of South Central Arkansas
Nestled among the low rolling hills of South Central Arkansas, El Dorado is a welcoming and attractive hub town with its own regional airport, tree filled suburban neighborhoods, busy commercial areas and even a historic downtown district with a couple of mid-rise structures. My family and I spent the night here while staying with relatives and found the town to be quite a bit more suburban than many of the towns we have passed through in Arkansas’ largely rural south. (That said, the house across the street from where we stayed did have a fenced in yard for the owner’s pet ducks).
"State Roads 7 & 24: El Dorado to Prescott"
Driving between El Dorado and Prescott, the town where my wife's grandmother lived, we took a couple of the back highways, state routes 7 and 24, through the South Arkansas foothills. The major commercial town along the way is Canton. The rest of the route basically wound past "blink and you miss it" towns and country homes amidst the woods.
