Travel Tips for Eureka Springs

Character is in the Details

by mrclay2000

Victorian-era details in its architecture differs widely from the markings we see today. Chiseled lions guarding a foyer. . .advertisements painted on red brick with wide sweeping white letters. . .gold leaf stenciling and frosted glass. These and other details still survive in today's Eureka Springs.

Beaver Lake

by shdw100

Beaver Lake is a resevoir that was created in 1966 by the daming of White river. It has 28,000 acres of water for activities such as water skiing, swimming, fishing and camping. It is an excellent place to get away from it all (although it was a little chilly the day that we visited to have a picnic!)

The Great Passion Play

One of the reasons that Eureka Springs became popular again is because it is home to The Great Passion Play. About 35 years ago, the play became a reality, and since that time, more than 7 million visitors have seen it. The literature says that "it was voted one of the top 100 events in North America"

It is good to know that the seats are comfortable because they have backrests; you are able to see no matter where you are because of the multi-level venue.

It's a cast of hundreds, including live animals.

Blue Springs Heritage-Eureka Springs Garden

by BruceDunning

It is located about 6 miles west of the downtown off Hwy 62. This site has been a draw for over hundreds of years, and focus came with settlers in about mid 1800's. Before that Indians lived here, and revered the spring that flowed. Since 1993 the garden is for display after many years of people expanding the spring area. It now has 33 acres to view of 93 total, some of flowers, and the rests wooded. The trip can take about 3/4 hour to see and walk through. They have let some thing deteriorate since 1993, and it shows. On the other hand they need money to keep going.
The spring flows 38 million gallons of water a day-a lot-and it flows into White River. They have a small dam and bridge going over the water. A crooked walkway is interesting on the one side. Under the limestone cave ledges is where Osage Indians lived over 10,000 years, and kept out of weather elements. Many artifacts were found here. In 1903 Frank Massiman bought 3800 acres for $1 per acre, and eventually in 1946 they were shipping "curative" waters out of the springs to cities. Open 9-5 mid March to mid November and price is $7.25

Visit Eureka Springs

by Jewelslover

"Historic Eureka Springs"

I went to Eureka Springs in October of 2003 with my mom for the fall War Eagle craft festival in October. What a great time of the year to visit. It was just lovely will the fall folage starting to turn colors. As you can expect Eureka Springs being down in the Ozarks was filled with trees and was quite hilly. It's a unique town that won't leave you disappointed.

I went to Eureka Springs again in June of 2005 with my husband. We stayed in a 100 year old hotel, the Basin Park Hotel. It is said to be haunted as well as the Crescent Hotel, but I did not have any strange experiences during my stay. I even went to the ghost tour of the Crescent Hotel.

"The Shopping is Great"

I will say that the downtown shopping was probably the best since you can walk. There are all sorts of little eclectic boutique type stores lining the streets. But there are many other cute shops throughout the town, but you will have to drive.

"Eureka is a Treasure"

Eureka is so fun just to walk around in or drive through. I just love looking at the old buildings and homes. You will see many different styles of architecture, and no two homes or buildings are alike.
