Travel Tips for Eureka Springs
Marriage Capital of the South: Eureka Springs, AR
by deecat
When we took the open tram to tour historic Eureka Springs, our tour guide told us that "Eureka Springs is known as the Marriage/Wedding Capital of the South"! She went further and explained that there are more places to be married here almost than in Las Vegas!
Most of the "ministers" gained their licenses from the internet; however, it is legal. Most of the stores in Eureka Springs are able to offer such services.
The only arrangement that couples MUST make in or to wed in Eureka Springs is to GET A MARRIAGE LICENSE in Arkansas, be over 18 [there is no waiting period and no blood test is required!] The certificate forms may be filled out at any county courthouse in the state. The Court House is open from 8:30 a.m. -4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday; Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Cost of the marriage license in Eureka Springs is $58.00, correct change and cash only! (See second photograph)
I must say that a Victorian Village in the beautiful Ozarks lends itself to such an occasion. One local told us that this small village hosts more weddings during the year than the city's population!
Just think, the village has perfect scenery, numerous beautiful resorts, motels, hotels, bed and breakfast inns, cottages, and cabins, and a multitude of ministers! There are some really special places to say "I do" in the region such as the incredible Thorncrown Chapel [as seen in the photograph]. I noticed that the Chamber of Commerce had a brochure called Wedding and Romance Guide which is FREE.
Caves are in the Area
by BruceDunning
The three more reknowned are Onyx Cave, Mystic Caverns, and Cosmic Caves. They are all within 50 miles ofEureka Springs. Caves run in the limestone from mid Missouri down to this area, and beyond. Onyx is six miles from town, and it is a smaller cave with way too many tourists abusing the environment since 1893 when it opened. It is not worth much effort to show up. Cosmic is heavily promoted since it is in between Branson and Eureka Springs, near Berryville. Price to enter is $14, and that is steep. Onyx is just past the Passion Play area on its own road, off Hwy 62 going east. Mystic CAverns is maybe the more famous due to its promotion in Branson, Missouri tourism. It costs $15, and hours are generally 9-5 daily. This cave has more color than others and has been giving tours since 1928. It is south of Harrison 8 miles off Hwy 7, and 40 miles east of Eureka Springs.

Christ of the Ozarks_Passion Play
by BruceDunning
Pitched on a high mound, it is its own setting within the Passion Play compound. This statue can be seen for miles. The statue is 67 feet tall, without the feet since he does not have any. This was intended to be a monument for a fun park that never materialized. The Passion Play is mid April through Mid October and the theater holds 4,100 people. Adjacent buildings are for eating areas, and gift shopping. Passion Play plays on your wallet. BAsic fare is $25 for the play only, and with other exibits thrown in can reach up to $65. Save Me.
