Travel Tips for Eureka Springs

Alternative Lifestyles Welcomed

by Kiisu

Although Eureka Springs is in the Southern Bible Belt, this village is known for being quite off-beat and open-minded. People who are gay, into alternative spirituality, or into alternative health live and enjoy this town side by side with staunch Christians and the large artist community. Having grown up around San Francisco, I have to say I feel quite at home in this tiny but diverse community. For info about gay-friendly and alternative-type of businesses, look at: www.eurekasprings.com/alternative/ .

Onyx Cave is a cave you walk...

by brdwtchr

Onyx Cave is a cave you walk through. You give your self a tour that is radio guided and end up back in the gift shop. It is a beautiful cave. In addition to the cave there is a button and doll museum near the parking area. One advantage to Onyx Cave is that it is open in the morning earlier than other attractions. We had breakfast and went to Onyx Cave before the other things we wanted to visit were open. It is located on U.S. 62 East of Springfield... Watch out for chipmonks in the parking area. We enjoyed watching them.

Pivot Rock

by Jewelslover

While in Eureka we went to see the Pivot Rock . It was interesting and you get to take a nice little walk through the woods, but I wouldn't schedule your whole trip around this. It cost $3.00/person, $.50/child to visit Pivot Rock.

Queen Anne Mansion

by mrclay2000

This wonderful 1891 Victorian-era mansion was built in Carthage, Missouri, before being moved here painstakingly piece-by-piece. Today the mansion offers tours through its three floors, stopping off at rooms full of art, antiques, porcelain and the like. Seven fireplaces and a half-dozen pocket doors are just a few of many features built into this beautiful home.

Eureka Springs in Springtime

by mcernurse

My girlfriend and I spent 3 days in Eureka Springs the first week of May. We had intended to take the Crescent Hotel "ghost tour" but were disappointed that it was not being run the evening we planned on going. We had planned this in advance based on the "ghost tour" website information that the operators would be starting their new schedule on May 1. According to their website, there should have been a tour on Monday, May 3. However, we and two other folks waiting outside the tour office found that this was not the case. Oh well, we'll do it next time.

Also, disappointed that the "dinner train" did not run the following evening as we had planned. We were told by the operators that they needed at least 10 diners to make a run and, alas, my girlfriend and I were the only 2 that had signed up.

In spite of these 2 disappointments, we had a wonderful time and easily found something else to occupy our time. Eureka is full of fun things to do and you won't find a place with more beautiful scenery and interesting buildings.
