Travel Tips for Fayetteville

Crazy about the home team

by MainstreetAmerican

I've noticed that during the school year into early summer (June) while the Razorbacks are still playing some sport, the Hogs are the number one priority. Take notice. If you visit on a gameday expect many local hangouts very busy and traffic somewhat of a mess. If you visit during the fall check ahead to see if there will be a football game during your visit. You may not be able to get a hotel room in the area, and traffic may be very crazy.

The crazy environment brought about by Razorback sports is very fun to watch, and can be quite enjoyable, but if you are not used to this kind of thing, it may be a shock.

Chemicals, Anyone?

by mrclay2000

Though the modern campus has a number of architecturally progressive buildings, the Chemistry Building (begun in the 1920s) makes the National Register of Historic Places for its classical architecture. Today's campus has a second chemistry building, both overlooking a series of paved walkways on which the names of all graduates are annually carved.

Home of the Hogs

by MainstreetAmerican

I currently live here in NW Arkansas. I've heard Fayetteville called many things, but first and foremost it is a college town. The University of Arkansas is the centerpiece of the town and many of the activities in the town. Fayetteville is unique among the rest of the NW Arkansas area in that it is more "open" and "socially liberal" than the rest of the area. That is not to say that it is a bastion of "liberalism" but with the University here ideas are flowing a little more freely than the rest of the area. There is some good shopping, but since Bentonville (north of Fayetteville about 20-30 miles) is the home of Wal-Mart this is very much Wal-Mart country.
