If you enjoy rocks and minerals, you must go to Mt Ida to the quartz mines. These are spots in the mountains where owners have 'peeled back' the topsoil to expose some of the most beautiful quartz to be found in the U.S. The cost is around $20.00 per person to hunt all day. You keep all that you find.
Oaklawn houses some of the best horse racing in the nation, and eventually, when the state legislature is ready for it, it will house some sort of casino gambling as well. Even if you don't like gambling, but you do like horses, this is worth your visit.
Hot Springs is a quiet, quaint resort town that offers horse racing in the early spring, lake recreation in spring, summer and fall, and southern hospitality all year round. An hour's drive from Little Rock, this is a retirees paradise, just short of Florida, that is.
