    Carriage Chamber at 1890
    Williams House

We stayed in a Victorian brownstone in Hot Springs called 1890 Williams House. It is quite rare to see such a building in Hot Springs. The doctor who built it had the stone hauled in. The present-day owners, Mary and Gary Riley, have refurbished it in an excellent manner.
Most impressive on the exterior of the main house, I thought, was the turret and tower with notched battlements. Inside, I loved the black marble fireplace and the antique piano. Of course, I loved all the antique furnishings and the great bathrooms in the rooms.
All rooms have private bathrooms/5 with Whirlpool Tubs for two!. The showers are the step-in stall type.
There are six guest rooms filled with lovely antiques, and they range from $98.00 up to $189 per night
The "Front Chamber" for $99.00 is large with sitting are in the turret. It has an antique high back bed, dressing table and chest. The bathroom has a marble shower and sink. The room has all the amenities plus a large closet.
The room we stayed in was called "Carriage Chamber" for $129.00 per day. It was a very large room with a queen Italian antique bed and dresser, a gas-log fireplace, large closet, and, best of all, an extra large bathroom with stained glass windows and enclosed column and mirror whirlpool tub for two plus a large tiled shower!". It, too, has all the amenities. I thought it was fabulous.

The rooms are freshened each morning for longer stays; the towels are really plush; there are large closets; each room has a refrigerator, coffee pot, CD Stereo Player, Hair Dryer, Iron/Ironing Board, Air-conditioning and ceiling fans; and last, but not least, great robes are provided!
The rates include a full breakfast served at your choice of 8 AM, 8:30 AM, or 9:00 AM. And speaking of breakfast; these are really special. I loved the pecan waffles! They offer specials each day along with the usual bacon, eggs, etc.
They also have a Carriage House with two guest rooms, both quite spacious with large bathrooms with whirlpool tubs for two.
The location is only 5 blocks from the Historic Downtown shopping area and world famous Bathhouse Row.

Elmwood House was established in 1886 by T. Elmwood Clark who built this three-story lodging structure so solid that it has survived numerous city fires. It's located a few minutes from the heart of historic downtown Eureka Springs. They tell the truth when they say the shopping district is just outside the front door as is the trolly stop.
The red brick exterior was recently refurbished to enhance its original beauty...this brick was formed by local clay. Still intact are the ornate railings, the brass hinge plates, the locks and the doorbell.
Continental breakfasts are provided as are complimentary refreshments.

This Bed and breakfast has three spacious guest suites with queen size beds, private baths, double Jacuzzis with shower, antique furnishings, air conditioning, ceiling fans, cable TV, individual refrigerators, and security safes.
The owners have added their own special touches such as wallpaper borders and Gossamer drapes to allow a gentle breeze to enter the rooms.
Elmwood House was the winner of the 1997 Eureka Springs Preservation Society Restoration Award.
We enjoyed our stay here, but I would not rave about it.

In their brochure, the Simantels use a "heart" theme, starting with "Lose your heart in the Ozarks." Their logo on their web and in their brochure uses a heart as its logo. In the front garden, they have placed a heart-shaped stone that they found on the property. Oh, yes, and on the doors are heart-shaped welcome signs. The Innkeepers, Iris and Bill Simantels, moved from Chicago to run this Edwardian pink house with its white picket fence. Being a gardener, I was impressed by all the lovely roses and geraniums as well as the gazebo.
Because Iris is originally from England, she has several items from there that are unique and beautiful. Most of the rooms and their themes were inspired by England and English gardens.
There are only eleven rooms and one Jacuzzi suite. However, they also rent two cottages. Rates, I feel, are modest, ranging from $89.00-$140.00; yet, they also have package deals that make these prices cheaper. These prices include an elaborate breakfast.

We stayed in Rose Arbor Room on the second floor. It was decorated with roses and lace. It opened onto the rear veranda; the view was the tree tops, but it was quite private. It had a Queen-size, antique four poster bed with a private bathroom with a tub-shower combination.

Most rooms are furnished with elegant antiques; however, two rooms are done in country style.
The most outstanding positive about Heartstone Inn and Cottages is the the Innkeepers, Bill and Iris. They are down-to-earth, funny, and determined to please.

  • All rooms are suites and run around $110.00 per night

They have a narrow finger of land that extends out into the lake with a path on it. At the end of the path is a sitting area where you can watch some of the most beautiful sunsets. At sunrise, there's a mist on the water that gives the place a magical quality.

Gaston's White River Resort: White River's Best Resort
  • Tip Rating:
  • Gaston's White River Resort is probably the nicest 'resort' in the north-central Arkansas Ozark mountains. When one hears the term 'resort' in this area, it usually refers to a pitiful group of cabins. But Gaston's is first rate and situated on the White River, which is famous for rainbow and brown trout fishing. There's nice cottages, beautiful grounds and trails, swimming pool, playground, tennis, boat dock (with guides waiting to take you fishing if you like), and one of the best restaurants in the area. It's a great place for a family vacation if you like fishing or nature. I've never stayed there, but I can vouch for the nicely kept grounds and good restaurant.
