Gaston's White River Resort is probably the nicest 'resort' in the north-central Arkansas Ozark mountains. When one hears the term 'resort' in this area, it usually refers to a pitiful group of cabins. But Gaston's is first rate and situated on the White River, which is famous for rainbow and brown trout fishing. There's nice cottages, beautiful grounds and trails, swimming pool, playground, tennis, boat dock (with guides waiting to take you fishing if you like), and one of the best restaurants in the area. It's a great place for a family vacation if you like fishing or nature. I've never stayed there, but I can vouch for the nicely kept grounds and good restaurant. THERE ARE 3 OR 4 NATIONAL PARK CAMP GROUNDS, FROM PRIMITIVE TO COMPLETE SERVICE FOR RV. THERE ARE ALSO PRIVATE CAMP GROUNDS AND CABINS AVAILABLE. SEARCH BUFFALO RIVER, ARK. ON THE INTERNET. I HAVE STAYED AT SOME OF ALL AND NEVER HAD A BAD VISIT EXCEPT WHEN CAUGHT IN AN ICE STORM. COULDN' GET OUT. ENJOYED TWO DAYS IN A CABIN WITH FIRE AND KEROSENE LANTERNS. CAUGHT UP ON SOME READING.

Stayed in a few of the usual roadside places, but actually ended up spending almost half my time (on most recent visit) staying in people's homes.
The old-fasioned friendliness of the locals is hard to believe for someone who has become desensitised by too much city living, but it really is there.
Not much of an accomodation tip, I know. But it was so unexpected and rewarding that I just had to mention it!! Theme: OtherAddress: Anywhere outside the big city

Ft. Smith is where Dad's best friend retired to, and I took Dad to see him. We stayed in a suite here and it was really nice. There was a jacuzzi bath, two internet connection, two phone lines with voice mail, and a fireplace in the central room! Very comfy!
The bedrooms were smallish, but who cared with a fireplace available? The beds were comfortable, with clean and fresh smelling linens. The bath had tons of warm and soft towels. There was a set of toiletries on the shelf next to the sink with shampoos, conditioners, a razor and four toothbrushes. Even a tiny little toothpaste!
There was a coffee bar in the main room, a small refridgerator and a microwave! Amazing stuff to find in a room.
The hotel has about 10 restaurants nearby.

very good overall, but my windows vista laptop will not pick up wi-fi , i don't know why and hotel was not able to fix it.
so call before you go about this issue.

Today we drove from Cave City Kentucky along I-65 south. At Nashville we got onto the I-40 west, went through Memphis, Tennessee and then on to Little Rock Arkansas, where we stayed for the night. Checking my Room Saver Coupon Book, we decided on AMERICA'S BEST VALUE INN with a coupon price of $33.95. The Motel was just OK and did not offer any continental breakfast. The room could have been a little cleaner, but hey, it was just a place to sleep.
