I'll be staying in Little Rock over Memorial Day weekend. Where are the nice parts of town to stay. Is it better to stay outside Little Rock - if so where? Will be traveling from Oklahoma City to Memphis with a stop in Little Rock. Would appreciate any advice.
Most of the nicer hotels are located downtown on the waterfront. Other than that there really is no other nice place downtown, if the downtown on the waterfront area is not for you, stay in the suburbs. I was in Little Rock for 4 days, stayed at a nice holiday Inn just off the freeway, a 10 minute walk to downtown, very nice. You will find that there is absoutely nothing to do in Little Rock at night, probably the most interesting thing would be the Clinton Library, and the waterfront.
I am not sure that I agree that there is nothing to do in LR at night. If you down river front there are plenty of things to do. There are art galleries open late certain nights of the week (I think generally it is the second Friday of each month). For things to do go to littlerock.com. It isn't the most informative of websites, but it gives you something to go from.
To answer your question about hotels, though. The downtown LR hotels, although close to the action, are very expensive. Try a known chain (not La Quinta or Comfort in, but Hilton or Hampton Inn) for better rates, but they will be out of that area--although not too far to drive in for a few hours.
I have to disagree as well at the "nothing to do" comment. There is a great place called "Willy D's" it's a duelling piano bar & great... there are also ALOT of bars/restaurants all down the strip of the riverfront. Places to stay can be pricy... The Peabody, of course getting the cake, the "Capital Hotel" has alot of class, the doubletree is good as well.. more budget minded is the "La Quinta Inn" it just got renivated this past fall & about 5 blocks from the downtown area.. The parking is decent downtown, so driving & parking isn't out of the question.
If you want to venture a little, my favorite restaurant is "The Faded Rose" that I have on my little rock page... good luck!!!
Nothing to do? except go to bars and restaurants, thats really nothing to do. You can do that sort of thing in any city, guess the comment should have been, nothing really to see, except the Clinton Library and the waterfront.

I would like to recommend to anyone who is visiting Little Rock to see Jennings Osborne's mansion on Cantrell Road by the I-430 overpass. He decorates in lights for all sorts of occasions. Pictured here is his current ensemble supporting the war in Afghanistan.
River Market Entertainment District - food vendors offering everything from pasta to barbecue and international coffees; a farmer's market brings fresh produce to the city along with crafts, flowers, herbs and street entertainment. Shops, pubs, restaurants, and night life flourish here along with special events throughout the year.
There is'nt much to do in Little Rock on a Sunday but it was still worth the drive.
Spent most of the day at Clinton's Presidential Libary then drove to the State Capitol and Quapaw Quarter.
The State Capitol was not impressive but it was beautiful at night. The Quapaw Quarter drive was alright but after seeing four to five houses... I was done!
Dinner was spent in a restaurant called the Flying Fish. Loved it! Had snowcrabs, oysters, etc. I will definitely come back and eat there again!
