More about The Ayres Hotel-Anaheim
Decent hotel but could be better
My wife and I stayed at the Ayres Hotel Anaheim for a convention at the Anaheim Convention Center. It was a very convenient location provided you have a car. It took us about 5 minutes each way to and from the convention center.
The rooms were roomy, good for a business traveler with an appropriate desk and small kitchen area (microwave only). Unfortunately the high-speed wireless internet only works in the lobby and it was slow and spotty at that. I ended up using the concierge terminal in the lobby although it is marked "Not for Guest Use".
We had problems with our toilet and each time we complained about it we were given another room to use temporarily while they fixed the problem. But they never did fix the problem permanently - so each day we had to request another room key so we could use that bathroom. This occurred for 4 nights straight. The in-room refrigerator also stopped working during our visit and when it finally went it started clunking at 3 AM waking us up.
The failure to adequately remedy the bathroom situation caused us a major inconvenience and is why I only give the Ayres Hotel Anaheim a 2 star rating.
A very fine hotel at a distinctly good price.
This boutique hotel is beautifully decorated, and not just in the lobby! We transferred here for the very comfortable beds we heard about. We found that it was decorated in Tuscan Old World decor with lots of room and thoughtful planning of design and comfort. The buffet combined with mde to order pancakes and hashbrowns were delicious and quick. They have around 12 or so hotels altogether according to their brochure. It was a small drive from Disneyland, but the Hotels price of $109 per double queen room couldn't be beat; I know because I compared. The price posted on the room inside door was over $300. I'll keep them in mind!!
Some friends of mine and I stayed here for one night as we were traveling. I asked for 2 rooms each with 2 queens. Upon arrival, we had a king bed in each room. We didn't know until we got to our room. I called down to the front and they had us relocated to another room within minutes and were very apologetic. Everything from that point on was perfect. The beds were so comfortable and the breakfast was out of this world! I would definitely stay here again...especially for the price!
A Nice Stay
We lodged six nights here. It was a nice hotel, not a four star, however it was quite comfortable. We experienced a brief mix-up on checking in where we were directed to a room with a king bed and a hide-a-bed sofa. We had reserved a two queen room. I returned to the front desk and they quickly fixed things.
The room was not large enough to allow for a roll away bed like we had wanted (we needed one so our son 15 years old and daughter 12 years old wouldn't have to share a bed) but the kids agreed to take turns sleeping on the floor. My wife would call the front desk each day and they would have housekeeping bring us a new set of sheets and a blanket. We had to do this every day because the maid would pick them up.
The free breakfast was good standard american fare. Each day would be scrambled eggs, either frech toast or pancakes, backon or sausage and hash browns or country frys. There was also dry cereal, fruit, bagels, toast, multiple juices from a dispenser, a small selection of pasteries, milk, coffee, hot chocolate and jellies. It saved us about $45-55 daily as my son and I have hollow leg(s) to store it in. The room was only about $109 a night , so the free breakfast was a real bargain. If you show up just before they close, the place gets swamped and they may briefly run out of things. The weekday cook cooks the pancakes as you order so there is a delay in most instances for the pancakes or french toast but he's a nice guy. The weekend cook cooks a little in advance on a hotter stove so she's a lot faster.
The room decor was nice, very new, clean and well kept. The TV channels were a little more limited than I am used to (direct tv at home).
The pool was nice. Not crowded at all. The spa was out of service and appeared to have filter powder in the bottom of it.
The work out room was small and contained seperate restrooms, a set of dumbbells in various weights (but no bench to use them with), a treadmill, a stair climber and a stationary bike.
Parking was plentiful, it was about a 5-7 minute drive to mickey land, right across the street from arrowhead pond (pro-hockey), and about a 2 minute drive from angel's stadium. Down the road we found a movie complex, starbucks, and places to eat. All in all very nice stay.
Great place to stay!
We had a wonderful stay here from the moment we checked in. The room was clean, spacious, and very tastefully decorated with a comfortable bed. They serve a great breakfast cooked to order in the morning and offer an afternoon reception with chips and dips, homemade cookies, beer and wine. The pool area was clean and towels were available. We had good service from the front desk and from Jose, the breakfast cook. It is a few miles drive from Disneyland, but we did not find the distance to be a problem. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the hotel for the price. All in all we were very pleased and will certainly stay again when we are in the area.
An oasis next to the freeway
The hotel is beautifully decorated and the room was big and comfortable with seperate living area with a large sofa, fridge, microwave and coffee machine. It is situated next the freeway, but the noise is masked by effective double glazing. The staff are very helpful and efficient, the breakfast room is a bit of a squash when a lot of people come down at the same time, but that was not such a problem. The hotel would benefit from a bar to sit in, but there is a bar/restaurant across the road which was excellent. Very convenient for the Arrowhead Pond Stadium, straight across the road, we went to an Eagles concert so did not need to drive!! If this hotel was outside the Disney complex, it would be a lot more expensive, we felt it was very good value for money. Disney is about 10 mins drive away. Try this hotel, see what we mean.
The place to stay for Arrowhead Pond
This is a very nice, quality hotel. The ideal location if attending an event at Arrowhead Pond, which I was. It is a simple walk across the street about 1 block. Anaheim Stadium is also nearby though not visible from here. About 2 miles from Disneyland, so if that's your destination best to stay at one of the hotels across the parks on South Harbor Blvd. Hotel caters mostly to buisness people and of course there are some sports fans staying here as well. Reasonably quiet considering the location. Parking and a full breakfast are both free an added bonus. The nightly price a decent $109. They also have a "happy hour" at 6pm with free wine or beer and nachos with salsa.
No problems checking in or out, parking not an issue. Lot was patrolled to keep non-guests out during stadium events. Rooms are well equipped with all the standard amenities including ref, micro, hairdryer, etc. The ref was empty and large bottles of water left by the coffemaker were $4 each which I never used. The hotel lacks a restaurant.
I was only here one night so cannot comment much on the maid service, but the room was clean and comfortable.
Great location for the Pond
Stayed for one night. Great location across from the Pond. Nice reasonable restaurant across the street. JT Shimds Brewhouse. Entrees $12 to $20. Drinks $5 to $8. Don't be put off. The restaurant has a full menu including wines by the glass and steaks. I would recommend this hotel for anyone wanting to avoid a long drive home from the Pond after a concert. Being able to walk 1 minute to our room made the evening. Bed was as promised, very comfortable. Rate was very reasonable at $125 including tax and full breakfast.
No where better!
This hotel made our vacation just perfect! Thanks to other reviews on "Trip Advisor", I found this gem in Anaheim and booked it for a family trip to Disneyland in January, 2006. We stayed 5 nights, reserving four rooms for our family of 12 (included 3 married children with their spouses along with two grandchildren). From the moment we walked into the fabulous lobby, we knew we had "died and gone to heaven" in finding this hotel! The pleasant atmosphere away from the hustle of the Disney strip, the hotel's courteous and helpful staff, the gorgeous and quiet rooms--and all this just 2 miles from Disneyland! Our rooms were top notch--the best we've ever had in California for that price. From the wood paneled elevator and lovely furnishings down the hallways (complete with framed masterpiece paintings), to the breakfast chef, Jose--this hotel should be classed a 4-star! The room's decor were classic (huge, carved wood headboards, armoires, desk with upholstered swivel chair, along with two french arm chairs and granite table for two, three end tables & three lamps), and the beds were very comfortable with perfect pillows and comforters! Fabric wallcoverings and velvet draperies in the room with granite countertops, lovely faucet & mirror in bath area. A nice, roomier tub in a separate tub & toilet area--and the microwave & fridge and extra sink in the bar area were a nice addition--great for multiple family members getting ready for a full day at Disneyland. And did I mention, CLEAN! I even used the washer & dryer down the hall! Unfortunately, we were way too busy to use the pool or fitness area. That is probably the ONLY thing we could find even remotely wrong with this hotel...the outdoor pool is not very private, it's practically sitting in the parking lot. It will be better when the surrounding shrubs grow, but Ayers should consider a solid fence. The complimentary breakfast was so fabulous each morning--eggs, pancakes, the best hasbrowns ever, french toast, bacon, sausage, fruit, cereal, breads, juices--well worth $7-10 a person--so that really makes this hotel a STEAL! We all loved the Ayers! It was so pleasant to come home after a long, long day at the Disney parks to a hot bath and such a pleasant, comfortable room. I've never taken time to write a TripAdvisor review before, but Ayers deserved us taking the time to compliment them! This hotel was one of the best parts of our vacation--I've already been spreading the word to all our friends visiting Disneyland to make sure the Ayers is their choice of hotel in Anaheim. Thank you, Ayers for a wonderful stay!
