More about Carousel Inn And Suites
Unbeatable for the Money...
I'll try to be very straightforward here...my family and I have stayed at the Carousel Inn three times over the past 5 years. If your family is planning a trip to Disneyland this is an outstanding hotel if you are looking for 1) the perfect location (right across the street from the main entrance to the Park...a 5 minute walk) 2) a clean, comfortable room at an outrageously low price 3) a no frills hotel because you plan to spend your vacation at the Parks.
They have a $55-75 nightly rate available at their website for off-peak dates (weekday and non-summer or holiday). We've always been treated right. Enjoy...
Great Value... Great Location
Carousel Inn is a great value, and right across the street from Disneyland. I stayed there in Feb. 04, we had no problems with the room or housekeeping. We always leave the maid $ 1.00 on each bed, maybe that helps! Our room was clean, and had a coffee maker, fridge, and hair dryer. What more could you ask for? When visiting Disneyland, not much time was spent in the room, so it worked out just great. It is nothing fancy, and the continental breakfast does get a little old after a few days. Always the same stuff, muffins, toast, oatmeal, fruit, danish, coffee, juice. No milk for the kids. After a few days we went to IHOP, but beware of the high prices!
Great Location, great price!
We just returned from a trip to Disneyland. We found the Carousel Inn and Suites on-line through Orbitz for a great deal. The location was AWESOME! There were 10 of us traveling with 4 kids. We all checked in on different dates, but they put us all in rooms next to eachother. The location is just across the main crosswalk into Disneyland. All we had to do was pack up our stroller and we were at the park in under 5 minutes, no shuttles to deal with!!! We arrived earlier than check-in, but they let us park our car for the day, pre-registered us and all we had to do was pick up our key any time after 3pm. Easy. The property is clean, recently remodeled. Our room had a microwave, fridge..great for making lunches to take to the park with us each day. The free continental breakfast was nothing exciting, but for the price, what do you expect. There was coffee, juice, fruit, danish and oatmeal. No milk, that was our only complaint. The rooms could be loud at times, but again we hardly spent any time in our room and again the price and location far outweighed any noise or lack of milk. The pool is smaller, but on the roof and the water was really warm. Our kids swam every day and night, even in the rain. Great view of the fireworks from the pool. No hot tub. McDonalds is next door, along with IHOP and Dennys within the block. Millie's no longer is free for kids unless you are staying at the ajacent hotel, but still good food for the price. A mini mart store is located in the property next door too, so helpful for quick items you forgot. We will definately stay here again, as the location was incredible and we would rather save money on our room to have more to spend at Disneyland. So if you want a basic, clean room with good service, great price and GREAT LOCATION, this is the place to stay.
Give It A Second Thought
We just returned from a stay at the Carousel for 4 nights. We arrived very tired from a very early morning flight and simply asked if we could get into our room a bit early. Quite curt answer from the desk person, "No, that is not possible". I then asked if we could store our luggage as we were advised by our travel agent that the hotel would gladly do this. I was handed a key attatched to a piece of wood and told that the storage room was three doors down and to the right.......we were also asked for our credit card for a "mandatory" $30 deposit to "cover" any phone charges, etc! We stowed our own luggage and headed off to the parks. True to their word, this is a close location to Disneyland and California Adventure........a short walk only. However, when we returned to check in after 3:00 PM needing a midday nap desparately, I was unable to sleep because of the noise......traffic, kids running up and down outside the room, air conditioners going on and off (not ours), etc. I was worried about getting any rest at all. Thankfully things were more quiet in the evening but the walls are paper thin and you hear everything. Breakfast is as many of the other reviews note, BASIC. No milk, no butter, watery orange juice, tastless coffee, etc. But if you want something in your stomach for no extra charge it will accomplish that. The room was clean and the bed was relatively comfortable. The maid "missed" our room one day and we did not have a clean room upon returning from a long day.
Also when we checked out we had to stow our own luggage again as our shuttle did not come until later in the day. My daughter thought she left a book in the room and the desk manager did call the housekeeping supervisor who said she would "get to it" when she had finished whatever she was doing. I waited until about 5 minutes before our shuttle arrived and asked the desk manager to check again........I got a rather curt reply that he couldn't leave the front desk.......all I wanted was for him to call housekeeping again to see if they had found the book! Finally the answer was "no".......however, we did not find it in my daughter's luggage so it only could have been left in the room.
If you want to trade location for good service, a decent breakfast buffet, and QUIET, then this is a good place for you. However, I think we would have done better, enjoyed our visit more, and gotten more value for the price to have stayed a bit further off site and taken a hotel shuttle. Wouldn't stay here again.
I stayed there this past weekend and was very pleased with the overall value. The rooms were very clean and had a mini-fridge, microwave and coffee-maker. There were ample towels, combined with a high-powered shower with plenty of hot water. What more does one want after a day in the Magic Kingdom? There's a convenience store next door, as well as IHOP, McDonald's, etc. nearby. I don't get those who have recommended taking the shuttle. For all the walking you do once inside the park, the walk from the hotel is a BREEZE! Upon arrival early in the morning, we were allowed to park there for free, even though check-in wasn't until 3. The same was true for the next day (we were allowed to park there all day, even though check-out was at 11). The "free parking" will all depend on how busy they are, though. Yes, kids were loud, and the layout is more like a motel (the hallways are outdoors), but again, I believe the overall value made up for this.
Take a ride on the Carousel.
O.K. let's start why I think this hotel was an excellent place to stay.
Location. Where else can you stay at a Disney resort area where you can go all day at the parks. Get tired and then within a 5 minute walk go back to your hotel. Once you're rested up it's another 5 minute walk to the parks and fun. Also, two doors down was a McDonalds. I of course believing that when there's a restaurant near an attraction they tend to jack up the prices. I was wrong, they had the dollar menus and I was glad that they had a cheap lunch alternative to the park priced meals. Anyway where was I, oh yeah, location pretty much sealed it for me along with the breakfast (light continental) and a fridge in the room.
The reasons that this hotel did not get an excellent is because the
room, or at least the one I stayed in was average at best, it wasn't in
the main building of the hotel, it was in a little 2 level addition
across from the hotel. If this is where they put the guests who book
through the disney website then I'll reserve it through another
They have a pool but with it being way high in the hotel, you tend to catch the wind all the time and with that comes the chance you'll be freezing once you get out of it. And we went in August.
Overall, this place had the essentials for us, a fridge to store our drinks that we brought into the park. A pool even though we didn't use it but once. And the most important thing, you could walk to the park and back to the hotel within 5 minutes each way. This would come in great if say, you forgot the camera, you could just turn around and go get it. If this happened to us a DisneyWorld, you might as well buy another camera instead of taking the shuttle for another 45 minutes and then take it again another 45 minutes back to your already incensed family.
My recommendation. This place is a place I would definitely stay at again, and have recommended it to at least 4 of my friends and they all agreed. The short walk sells the hotel.
Go. You won't be disappointed. Reg
Will stay there again
This is the second time we have stayed on this property and we will stay there again in the future. They have made a number of nice improvements to the rooms decor. However, the beds are the worst, too soft. After spending 15 hours in Disneyland you need a good bed to sleep on so you can spend another 15 hours the following day. The property is nice and of value with special little touches like hanging plants and a fountain. The front desk is warm and friendly. The first day house keeping was good the second for get it!! They did not even give us clean towels. Again for the cost of $65.00 for a holiday weekend (Valentines Day / Presidents Day Weekend) it was a real bargen.
It is also less than a 5 min walk to the front gates of Disneyland. The rooms were a nice size and parking was not a problem. We requested a room on the 5 floor away from the street and our requests were met. Out side of our door we had a really nice view of Disney's California Adventure Park with views of the new Tower of Terror attraction and other really great views of the park, rollercoaster, ferris wheel, GRR ride, etc. After staying at the Disneyland Hotel this past summer this was a better choice and value. 3 nights were cheaper than one at the DLHotel. (It is not unusual for us to spend @250 on up for rooms while vacationing. But I would rather stay somewhere basic and have a extra vacation and alot more $$ to spend while being on vacation.) Hope this review is helpful.
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
The Good was the location, just walk across the street and you are at
The Bad was they forgot to have a crib ready in our room and they forgot to clean the room the next day. Also when we turned the heat on, the system had an electrical problem which the system smoked setting the smoke alarm. Someone had to
replaced the system.
The Ugly was there were lots of red ants in the bathroom the place needed to be sprayed with pest control.
If this was a Disney ride it would be a cross between the Haunted Mansion and Bug's Life.
A Nightmare Gone to the Ants.
We will be staying at the Carousel Inn & Suites opposite Disneyland and have heard it's possible to just walk out the front and catch a bus EASILY to Knotts Berry Farm - could anyone please confirm / give the website for timetables for such a bus? Huge thanks. Alternatively we'll need to look at going as a proper tour but would prefer the freedom to come and go as suited us.
