 | Howard Johnson Anaheim: Don't stay here if you have choice

I hated - 1) Lugging bags to the 2nd floor - no elevator 2) Traffic noise 3) Arched windows with no blinds so the room was never dark 4) Must close the toilet lid to flush 5) Extra low flow shower that only provided warm mist 6) What little paint there was was peeling 7) No microwave 8) Mauve, green and yellow room colors 9) Hour long waits to be seated at area restaurants (even McDonald's!) for 7:30am breakfast 10) Paying $1 for a single banana in the onsite quick mart to avoid the breakfast wait 11) No room safe 12) Anyone can walk in and enter the interior (hidden) hallways and be right at your door. No gates, no security, and no need to walk past a front desk. Plenty of places to hide. Not the most secure hotel. I found Disney area chain restaurants are higher priced than the same restaurant a mile or two away from Disney. I never saw a HoJo shuttle to Disney - everyone walks. Even if there is a shuttle, you wouldn't want to wait for it. The pools were medium size and basic, but were heated. There is an arcade game room with pool table full of unsupervised youths. The desk staff gave printed directions to Universal Studios that were incorrect. The Universal Studios map they provided was also out-of-date - some attractions were closed and newer ones were missing. They recommended a nearby Wal-Mart and grocery store that are in very rough parts of town - don't go after dark. The ONLY reason to stay within walking distance of the Disney gates (this is the furthest away of the walking distance hotels) is if you are here with no transportation - like on a high school trip. If you have a car there are lots of better, nicer, cheaper hotels within a 10 minute drive instead of a 10 minute walk. I also stayed at Comfort Inn on Katella this trip. It was cheaper, nicer, cleaner, had a microwave, a shower with real water, and a decent breakfast buffet. Took 10 minutes to drive to Disney ($11 to park), or take their shuttle for $3 per person. I recommend the Comfort Inn over HoJo.
Nice landscaping on the outside - very shabby on the inside. Don't stay in a top floor room with those horrid arched windows if you prefer darkness for sleeping. Not recommended for anyone.
