Angels Camp

"Made Famous by Mark Twain"
Mark Twain's first published work was a short story set in this Gold Rush town. Titled The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County, it made him a success. To this day, Angels Camp has its own Jumping Frog contest, held in June.
Like nearby Sonora, this is a good base for touring the Gold Country.
Downtown Angels Camp
by WulfstanTraveller
Downtown Angels Camp has a lot of interestig old buildings. As mentioned elsewhere, these are primarily only along Main Street.
All along the sidewalks of Main Street in downtown Angels Camp are bronze plaques with the winners of the annual jumping frog contest held at the county fair. Each plaque has a frog and the name of the frog, owner, and hometown. See my tip on that event.
