Nothing fancy and nothing like a Holiday Inn.

Hacienda del Sol: Borrego Springs Vintage Lodging

Located in the 'heart' of Borrego Springs, Hacienda del Sol is located on 6 acres landscaped with mature desert plantings such as Palo Verde, native Palms, agaves and creosote. There is a small roadside motel section, a series of ten 1-bedroom duplexes that sit on the outer ring of the private drive with nice views of the surrounding mountains. There are four 1-bedroom cottages with fireplaces close in to the pool area, which is located in the center of the grounds. The duplexes and cottages have their own patios for sunning or admiring the night sky.

We will stay here again because of the price, location, the grounds, large duplexes with great views, and we don't mind the funkiness of showing its age.

Staying here is an experience of stepping back in time to another era, which seems to be the accidental theme of Borrego Springs. Built in the early 1960's the architecture has a pure 'desert resort' style that is mostly intact although tired. Original kitchens are furnished with chrome dinette sets while the living rooms have a motley mix of good mid-century vintage and bad 1970's pieces. Nothing matches, including the plates supplied in the kitchen cabinets.

The pool is clean and well heated, even in the winter.

Stanlunds Motel: Classic 50's Desert Motel

Roomy space with kitchenette when it is too hot or too cold to camp..

Rooms with a kitchenette are more charming and most have their own patio in the back.

The nice family who runs the motel hasn't done much with the place but we like things left in the original state, even if it shows some wear and tear.

Clean and no frills with a feeling of better days in the decades past. This used to be a classy resort for the average sorts.

Warm clean pool!

Vintage interiors with nice 1950's flourishes. Some original furniture remains but not all of it in the best shape.
