Horse Racing

Enjoy a day at the track. there is a nice infield with a playground if you have kids. The stands were built in the 1920s and are quite pretty if the track itself is unrelentingly harsh on the horses. Morning workouts canbe watched from the stands and stable tours are available. Breakfast at the trackside is available sometimes even when there is no racing. check website for details.

Arcadia is 18 miles north east of Los Angeles. I lived here for a short time and worked at the track for some time. The races are run at different times of the year so check their website first to see if the races are actually being held. There is a large mall next to the track and numerous buses available. The Los Angeles County Arboretum is next to the racetrack so it is possible to have a really busy day there if you plan it right. If you have a car take Santa Anita Ave all the way to the top to Chantry Flats and hike the San Gabriel Mountains. Summers are very hot so plan on activities in cooler places in the middle of the day.
