Baker Branch Library 1915

by Yaqui

The library built in 1915 is a classic example of Italian Renaissance version of Greek Revival Federal public building architecture. Architect O.L. Clark was commissioned by the City of Bakersfield to design the library. In the 1980's the building underwent architectural renovation and seismic retrofit. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Beale Clock Tower

by Yaqui

A gift to the city of Bakersfield in 1904 by Truxtun Beale in memory of his mother. This 48 foot clock tower originally stood for 48 years in the middle of Chester Ave and 17th Street. It's Bakersfield best known landmark. Then in 1952 when the Tehachapi equarthquake hit, the clock was almost destroyed and then demolished, but some of it's parts were saved in hopes of building another one in the future. In 1961 the beautiful clock tower was reconstructed, but this time in front of the Kern County Museum for all future generations to enjoy!

Located: 3801 Chester Ave, Bakersfield, Ca
Take the 58 Freeway and exit onto Chester Ave North. It will be on the left hand side.

"oh so many wind turbines"

We were on a 17 day Californian Coach tour, and drove through Bakersfield, and saw all these huge wind turbines on the surrounding hills, harnessing all the energy.
